A reader wrote to me asking for some input regarding some replacement electric windshield wipers. I couldn’t answer his question and, in fact, I’ll have the same problem once I install my electric wipers. Here’s what he wrote:
” I just bought the electric wiper conversion kit from Omix-ada, but the instructions are limited to the wiring diagram. As you can see from the picture, the shaft length would seem to cause a problem in a direct exchange. I have thought of cutting down the shafts(inner and outer) but wonder if I’m missing something easier. I have Googled the web to see if any one has discussed the conversion, so far no luck. I wonder if you or any of your readers has used these. Any help or comments would be appreciated. Thanks Phil”

try calling wrecking yards. they know a lot of information, your best bet would be jeep yards, and wrecking yards that deal with the old stuff.

Thanks christopher. Note that the list is about 15 years old based on the 1995 time stamp of the email. I do know for sure that some of these are no longer in business, while others are in business. It might may an interesting project to update this list …. hmmm.

Just cut the arm down
I cut the shaft…..Be grateful you even got a wiring diagram with yours….. I got the SS ones that don’t have a switch on the motor….They operate off a switched ground so that the park feature works. It took me a few tries and some internet searching to find the proper diagram.

Those omix motors are not worth the money in my book and quite a few people do not like them once installed. Also, have been told that they go out quickly. There was also a discussion of some boat wiper motors that work well and are powerful, waterproof, and a little over 100 bucks.Good luck
The Cleveland Ignition wiper motors look like high quality units, but it looks like a case of you get what you pay for: 2 omix wiper kits: $106.00 Can. 1 Cleveand Ignition set up around $200.00 Can. Thanks for the imput so far.

The marinco link look like the omix replacement style wise. They have different shaft lengths.
i cut down the shafts on my set its takes patience but i ordered mine off of kaiserwillys.com and they worked peerfect for me.
