Newspaper Articles from 1945 introducing the Jeep

UPDATE: The links to the PDFs are fixed.

Among the digitized items Bruce has sent me comes these articles.  In this one, from the Hammond Times, July 23, 1945, Willys Overland introduces the new Post-War Jeep.  What’s interesting is that it’s neither an “ad” nor is it really an article.  You can view the entire PDF here.

Even more interesting was the pricing decision.  These new Willys would cost $1000, a price not set by Willys Overland, but instead by the Office of Price Administration (OPA).  This information comes from a July 31, 1945 article, in the Vidette-Messenger, Valparaiso, Indiana. Here’s the full PDF and an excerpt below.

Dave, your PDF attachments seem to have an extra http// in the address line. Thanks for the download. Now, would you mind if I posted this over on my website? http://www.This-Old-Jeep.com I’ve been meaning to tell you about it. Its a site that I started to begin archiving all of the miscellaneous stuff that seems to fall in between the cracks of jeep history, vintage photos, ads, dealer ephemera, etc… Thanks again, Brendan T. Yes .. it seems I mucked up the address … (note to self … test test test!)

Ok, the links are fixed 🙂

I’m very interested in what you are doing. Instead of links, I’d like to provide you with a large chunk of specific content I have that I’m hoping you can do more justice to than I have thus far. I’ll send you a separate email.

    In the meantime, link away.

    Thanks!

Dave, I would love to host anything that you have to submit. I think that you already have my email, but just in case: btburke@gmail.com We are dealing with a ton of snow here, so I hope to get more stuff up by this weekend. Looking forward to it and thanks again. Brendan
