Does anyone know when the Super Jeep was produced and what made it different, other than decals? I am looking to write an article about it. I know it was made in 72 + 73. Any other years?

I’d never heard of it until you mentioned it, but I don’t know that much about he special edition CJ-5s.

Here’s a little info from the four wheeler mag.

“Many special editions existed for the CJ-5, including the 1964-68 Tuxedo Park; the 1969 Camper; the 1969 “462” model; the 1971 Renegade I; the 1972-83 Renegade II; the 1972 Super Jeep; and the 1977-83 Golden Eagle. The CJ-5 has been the basis for countless trail buildups and probably logged more trail miles than any other Jeep. Shown in the magazine is a ’73 Renegade II. This package featured a 304cid V-8 (the first V-8 in a short-wheelbase utility), Mag wheels and a host of other goodies that included a Powr-Lok rear limited-slip.” (http://www.fourwheeler.com/thehistoryof/129_9709_jeepposter/index3.html)

So, was the Super Jeep really produced in both years, or was it only produced in ’72, but stock was still available in ’73, so some were sold as 73s?

It sounds like a good story. I’d like to learn what motivated the creation of the model as well.
