Here’s a VEC #12110 that’s been militarized and ‘stickized’.

“This is a complete frame-off “down to bare metal” restoration of a VEC CJ2A Willys Jeep, S/N 12110.  A jeep restored like this by a shop would cost well over $40,000 counting all the hours of “love” that went into the project. We took great care to ensure this jeep (which was manufactured on the same line as the last military jeeps) maintained as many original components as possible.  Restoration began in December 2009 and we just completed it in August of 2010.  You can see by the Buy It Now price that my reserve is between the starting price and the BuyItNow.

The original content of this jeep is about 95%.  The jeep has the original (although converted to stick) column shift transmission.  Everything on this jeep is completely restored or rebuilt.  Please see pictures. We have many more pictures of the project from start to end.  We have all receipts and documents and research and will provide a detailed book of the restoration process, all receipts and history of this particular jeep.  The numbers on the hood are referenced from the Military database for this VIN number.  Note that prior to our purchase of this restoration project, this jeep had the Leaf Springs replaced and also the Shackles were changed to a modern version by the prior owner. ….”

I’m having a bit of a challenge understanding why someone would go to the effort of restoring an already rare VEC, and then( in MY opinion) devalue it by “sticking it” and ” militarizing” it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice Jeep but it’s a VEC. It’s not an MB or an M-38, it’s a CJ. Too much……ok I’ll shutup.

If I could offer an explanation, apart from the seller always wanted a militarized VEC CJ-2A, I’d offer it. But, alas, I have no reasonable alternative explanation ….

Frank, I agree with you 100%. I think it’s a shame. If you’re going to “restore” it, do so to the original specs.

These restoration guys just drive me nuts sometimes. Was just reading the copy on this resto again. Question: how can a CJ vin # be cross referenced with a military database to come up with the hood numbers??? Is this possible or is this complete b.s.? Or is this misleading to the public who are unaware? I’m not familiar with how it works,so please help me understand.

Well, it’s possible that the seller attempted to look up a set of numbers for the hood, but given this was, never in the military’s hands, and I see no evidence to the contrary, the hood numbers would be meaningless.

My concern with that statement is that the seller is implying there was a military connection when there was none.

Admittedly, I didn’t even read past the first paragraph on this ad (hence the single pic posted), because I felt the seller wasn’t acting in complete good faith; I just wanted to record the VIN for future reference.

Also, I just realized this has the wrong rear end (it should be full floating up to #13453 http://www.thecj2apage.com/history.html ). It’s possible this is a VEC body thrown on a different chassis (or mixed/matched) in a way that isn’t original.

Thank you for clearing that up for me, Dave. Like I said, these resto guys are ticking me off. I am starting to feel that these guys are scammers in a different sort of way. Knowingly selling (duping) an uninformed general public something that isn’t what it’s labelled as is just dishonest. Adding insult to injury, his starting bid is freaking unreal. There are some awesome resto projects for sale with full disclosure and documentation that are going for less. I’ll stop now. Where’s my paper bag; starting to hyperventilate.

Which is another reason I don’t delete many old ads at ewillys. I’m hoping the existing price history provides some background for forming rational purchase-price decisions. I mean, the only other history is from NADA and those prices don’t reflect the real world jeeps that are for sale.

In one comment the guys says it was made alongside the MB model, in the other, he says it was made 6 mos later.
