    Cool pic. Our grandpa fought on Attu during WWII, a few islands to the west. They were supposed to go to Africa to fight Rommel, but ended up on the Aleutians.

    Well, you can guess what gear they had packed for Africa and what gear they had when they landed on Attu and Kiska.

    It was cold there, I have seen some pictures of interesting tops made for the jeep made from whatever they could find. Artic tops didn’t exitst then.

    In the mid 1960’s and early 70’s Amchitka island was the site of three underground nuclear blasts. The workers were exposed to radioactive elements but this information was not made public for years. A friend of mine worked there during the blasts… he was a good guy but he died of cancer.
