Nice Jeep – Dave, thanks for pointing out the square gas tank holder. Do you know the approximate production date for the change to round holder.
I wonder why some guys don’t use top seat cushions, maybe more space from steering wheel.
I wonder if those wipers are a govt. kit, or owner built?

Frank from G503 notes the following:

The change over from “Square” to rounded was done around MB 118xxx (very early Feb.1942)
The change from “small” cap to large filler cap was around MB 1747xx

Those wipers look like the aftermarket tandem style to me, but I’m not expert. From my quick research, it appears at various times manual wipers, manual tandem wipers, electric wipers and vacuum wipers could all be found on WWII jeeps. Sometimes they were field mods and some came from the factory.

Do a google search for “willys mb windshield tandem wipers” and you’ll see pics of the old ones and the reproductions for sale.

I think I see early body gussets as well, which combined with the square gas tank well makes this a script slatt grille body….although steering wheel would be solid plastic not bare metal spokes. The great thing is it has original data plates so it should be relatively easy to identify this jeep for what it is.

I did not realize there was a solid plastic steering wheel before the spoked version. Is that wheel similar to later civilian type or easily identified as the early style.
