For sale: one great little classic black plate running 1952 Willys 4×4 truck with overdrive

General: This incredibly stock 1952 Willys truck stops, goes, steers, and cruises. The engine purrs like a kitten. Nearly all parts are there, but there is significant rust on the bed, doors, and rain gutters. This truck is a perfect candidate for an original restoration. Or, you can wait on the restoration and enjoy it as is.

Engine: F134 Willys “Hurricane” four cylinder, max horsepower: 72 @ 4000 RPM, max torque: 114 lbs.-ft. @ 2000 RPM
Transmission: T90, 3 speed manual
Overdrive: Warn overdrive (a $1,000 part) can be used in all three forward gears in both high and low range, giving you essentially a six speed transmission
Transfer case: D18, high and low
Tires: 235/85 16″ hold air, but are cracked and will need to be replaced
Brakes: all work, including parking brake
Electrical: most work, including lights, turn signals, radio, etc.
Mileage: 33,833 (indicated/unverified)
Work done in 2013: replaced the starter (used); installed new brake lines; flushed, cleaned and sealed fuel tank; added new spark plugs; fixed ignition; restored wood bed side boards; fixed parking brake
Other: Recently restored wood bed side boards (stripped, sanded, and multiple coats of marine varnish)
Title: clear California title in my name
Registration: registered through 7/31/2014 with both California commercial black plates
Missing: one windshield wiper, air cleaner, tailgate, two beauty rings (not stock)
Parts: readily available through vendors such as Willys America, Kaiser-Willys.com, Walcks, and WillysTruckWarehouse.com

History: This truck was lovingly restored in the late 1980s (not quite stock) and then sold in the 1997 to the previous owner. The starter went out and the truck sat, both at the previous owner’s house and a local mechanic’s shop for many years, essentially abandoned. I heard about it a year ago and bought it, spending the last year installing a replacement starter, having the fuel system cleaned (carb, lines, and tank), brakes lines re-done, tune-up, re-doing the wood bed side boards, and getting the DMV paperwork done.

Reason for selling: I am 6’7″ and cannot safely drive the truck. Depending on how long your legs are, it probably is best for someone who is ~6’2″ or shorter. I also already have a Willys Wagon. When I first learned about the essentially abandoned truck a year ago, I felt like I had to save her and find her a new home despite being too tall for her.

The good: a great running little Willys 4×4 truck. Turn the key and go. Nearly complete.
The bad: rust in bed, lower doors, rain gutters, etc.
The bottom line: a great little truck. Drive it as-is and fix the rust on your own time (or leave it).

Price: $5900. No trades. Since the tires are so old, this can be driven around the block, but not safely on the freeway. Bring a trailer or towbar to get her home safely. Truck is currently in Rodeo/Hercules in the San Francisco East Bay

Thanks for looking and feel free to ask questions.”
