Today we didn’t do much but relax and wander around Monterey on a mostly cloudy day. Monterey has two wharfs, one more tourist-oriented and one more local-oriented. We started at the latter by grabbing some clam chowder at the Sandbar & Grille Restaurant. The chowder tasted good, but had a too many potato chunks and too few clams.
After lunch we got on our tourist vibe with a walk to the other more notable wharf.
The ‘tourist’ wharf even had an unofficial greeter:

At the end of wharf Ann got busy with her camera, so I got busy photographing her.
As we left the wharf I decided to see if YELP could find an interesting ice cream place. Sure enough, YELP found Kai Lee Creamery in Pacific Grove. So, we headed west until reaching the cannery row area, with some recognizable places.
Kai Lee Creamery was started six months ago by Butch Adams who had no experience in the industry. His goal is to make ice cream that is organic, gluten-free, non-soy, all-natural, vegetarian, and handmade.
When we entered his small store at the American Tin Cannery, Butch was joking with a couple customers in a Russian accent. He was clearly enjoying entertaining them as much as serving them his ice cream. When it was our turn, he kept up the entertainment and scooped us a scoop each of triple vanilla bean and banana chocolate mouse. Though we’d hoped to get our ice cream in a waffle cone, he said he didn’t have any as he was upgrading to a much more efficient machine.

After our Ice cream we drove out to Lover’s Point in Pacific Grove and took a few photos.
As we were leaving the park a guy in full BDU (Ann translated that for me as Battle Dress Uniform) rode a bike up to the end of the point, then marched onto the rocks. He wore a backpack with a US Flag on a pole attached to the backpack. On top of the pole was a stuffed eagle. He stood amongst the rocks at the point for several minutes before riding quickly away. It was a bit odd.
We returned to the motel after that for a nap and to work on photos and eWillys. On Wednesday we head to Santa Cruz for a few days. On Friday we drive to San Francisco for the weekend.
