Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Here’s a rare Higgins reconditioned jeep, one of 1,850 refurbished by the company. Learn more about the reconditioning program here. It does not run.
“1942 Ford GPW w/ GPW engine. Jeep rebuilt by Higgins in New Orleans, Feb. 1945. Not running. Engine free- As is $5500 or best offer.”
I haven’t seen any reference to rebuild shops in Japan. I is my understanding that the majority of jeeps used in Korea during the hot war were refurbished WWIIs. I am also aware some may have been junkers left from WWII, as Korean vet stories of them breaking down sort of indicate

That’s a good point. I’ve run across some photos of the military teaching some Japanese nationals how to work on jeeps following the close of WWII, but I can’t remember a specific reference to a reconditioning unit in Japan. However, it seems pretty likely that one may have been there. I’ll see what I can find.
