Most of the Jeeps around here that were placed into Fire Service as Brush Trucks were equipped that type of cage from the manufacturer that place the water tank and booster reels

When I was active in the Fire service . (Loudon New Hampshire) We never had jeeps that small but we did have a few M-37 that were quite mean off road and were pretty effective.
They were fun to drive too. Manual everything. Very exciting to get it slowed down from 55
when it had 250 gals of water along with a pump and tools and lots of hose !

That cage must be a purchased item from the period. I had an M38A1 with the exact same cage. Mine was a fire jeep as well…. for the Forest Service. I didn’t realize that at the time and thought it was just some maintenence man’s concoction. I took it off and sold it :(… The cool thing about that cage is that it mounts to existing holes, so it can be removed without leaving a ‘bubba mark’. The uncool thing is that they cut the back panel out to make room for a water tank.
