“Mostly original 1959 Willys CJ-6. Long-wheelbase CJ-5. Odometer reads 40,210 and just may be correct – I’m not sure. I bought earlier this year as non-running project from the family of the previous owner after he passed away. Didn’t get much paperwork or receipts but he seemed to have put a lot of care and good work into it. I’ve put a lot of time and money into it since. I have other projects and need to make room, but not desperate to sell. Here’s what I did and vehicle’s current state:
Engine is original 134-cube F-head. I replaced the entire fuel system from tank to carb with brand new replacement parts, installed a Pertronix electronic ignition conversion/wires/coil, and adjusted the valves. Inside of engine looks very clean and gaskets looked new. It’s possible it’s had an engine rebuild or at the very least perhaps a valve job but I’m not sure. Regardless, the compression excellent and engine is strong runner. The carb I installed still needs a little tuning at lower rpm (slight off-idle stumble – probably needs accelerator shot increased) but I don’t have time to futz with it much. Have the 1-bbl Carter that was on the vehicle when I got it and will include with Jeep. Previous owner did a 12-volt conversion with a one-wire alternator that works well. Cooling system is tight with no leaks and vehicle doesn’t run hot. Exhaust system exits in passenger-rear and appears original.

Transmission is the original T-90 three-speed. Clutch grabs good, linkage works nicely, and transmission doesn’t jump out of gear.

Factory Spicer 18 T-case has the original twin-stick linkage that shifts smoothly and the drum E-brake system on the rear output is complete and works perfectly. Original driveshafts have new U-joints from previous owner.

Factory Dana 25 front and Dana 44 rear axles have open diffs and factory 5.38 gears and look all original and unmolested other than the Dualamatic front hubs, which work flawlessly.

I properly adjusted the factory 9-inch drum brakes and flushed the old fluid with fresh. Brakes work very well. Steering is all original Ross cam & lever and is tight and sure. Original steering wheel has some cracks and turns your hands black but the horn works! First vintage Jeep I’ve ever owned that the horn button on the steering wheel actually operates the horn correctly.

I installed five new 16×4.5 steel wheels with brand new 6.50-16 Firestone Knobby tires and tubes from Coker. Tires only have a few miles of test driving around the neighborhood on them. Fifth tire/wheel is a spare. I have a new reproduction side-saddle spare tire mount, which I haven’t installed on the passenger-side quarter panel yet.

Body is clean with no signs of rot. Somebody sprayed a new coat of red paint sometime in the not-too-distant past. Looks great but is applied a bit thick. Unfortunately the dash has been cut for aftermarket gauges but I have an unmolested red dash out of my old ’63 CJ-6 (complete with gauge, wiring, switches, etc) that I would sell at an extra cost if you’re looking to do a perfect resto. Factory speedo is present and works. Fuel gauge appears to work but I haven’t used enough fuel to run it down and verify yet. New sending unit was installed with new tank. Factory 60/40 front bench has been recovered with brown vinyl sometime in the past, but the rear bench looks like it’s still sporting the original faded red vinyl. It has lap belts up front – look like universal type. Rear seat isn’t bolted down. Windshield frame is unrestored black paint with some surface rust and chip/crack in passenger-side glass.

Suspension and frame appear to be completely stock with no cracks, bends, or other issues. Replacement no-name shocks but springs appear original with no sagging or cracks.

It’s not perfect, but it’s a great parade or ice-cream runner that turns heads and gets thumbs-up. If you’re looking for a great resto project you can drive while you tinker, this is your CJ. They’re getting hard to find in this condition.

Clean title in my name that matches the firewall VIN. Registration is current CA non-op and matches the plates. No DMV hassles with this vehicle! Please, serious inquiries only. No joy riders or lookie-loos. Email with phone number so I know you’re not a spam-bot and I’ll get back to you.”
