Beautiful restoration, asking $44,900.00. Out of my price range, that’s for sure. With that price, the seller just priced himself right out of the market.
There are two kinds of buyers in the classic car market. Those collectors that deem the vehicle a good value for the price and those buyers that buy a vehicle just because they can.
I looked at this Surrey when it was first advertised and while it is a nice restoration, it is not a correct restoration. It has front and rear bumpers from a 48-49 Jeepster and several other notable deviations from stock. The work was well done, just not correct. The price being asked hasn’t changed in the past month, but there are hordes of buyers in Phoenix now for all the car auctions. There may be someone with deep enough pockets to pay this kind of money. We have seen a couple of Surreys go for more than they should ( Red Skelton’s 63 and Alan Jackson’s 62) both of which went for over $50K at Barrett Jackson. Normally, a well restored Surrey has gone for around the $20-24K range at the auctions here. This would be a more normal price for this Surrey.
Colin, I’m not an expert on this, but as long as we’re on the subject of “correct restoration” take a look at the headlights, they seen to stick out too far. Are those the correct headlight bezels?
Shouldn’t the engine be black with a cross over tube for the air cleaner. Also didn’t think they were still using Oakes. Thought they were all Donaldsons by this point. Upper radiator hose isn’t right either I don’t think.
For that kind of dough I would expect it to be perfectly perfect.
