“A short history of this 1962 Jeep Willys Utility Wagon: it was originally purchased in late 1962 by Motherlode Bank of Placerville, CA for use by the bank in evaluating rural properties for potential mortgages. The president of the bank bought the truck from the bank when he retired, and he left it to his son who later gave it to his nephew, who kept it on a farm near Modesto, CA. The nephew later sold it to a northern California real estate appraiser who was evaluating the farm and saw it in a barn, and he sold it to me in 2010. I found the vehicle online and had it shipped to Georgia, after many discussions with the owner and a thorough inspection in California.

The Willys is in remarkably great original condition, with the original paint, interior and engine (3.8L 231 CID OHC “Tornado” engine). It has a 3 speed manual transmission with dealer installed manual WARN locking hubs. It has 92,074 original miles. I am confident the mileage and paint are original due to a service station door sticker from 1980 (and also confirmed by a conversation with the son of the original owner, found through the original paperwork with the vehicle). The only things I’ve done to it are to replace the rusted exhaust system, cracked exhaust manifold, leaky fuel pump, battery and added a Petronix electronic ignition (inside the distributor cap). I also had the carburetor rebuilt and have tuned it regularly, and it drives great. In fact, I drive it every weekend. I also had the front bumper straightened and rechromed. I’ve entered it in 3 large car shows (UPS United Way Annual Car Show in Roswell, GA) and have won “Best of Class” trophies all three times. Whenever I drive it, everyone turns and smiles. I’ve actually had people get out of their cars at stoplights to take pictures of the Willys.

As you’ll see from the photos, the Willys is not exactly perfect, but considering its age it is in excellent condition and has incredible patina and character. The only rust on the underside is minor surface rust. The passenger side door has a small and very old dent, as you can see in the photos. The windshield also has a similarly old crack in the lower driver’s side corner, and there is minor rust around the windshield (but does not leak). The hinge on the tailgate was obviously reprimed with rust resistant paint some time ago, but there is no noticeable rust other than surface rust in that area. The upholstery and headliner is perfect with the exception of a small (~1.5 in.) tear on the left side of the driver’s seat.

I hate to sell the war wagon but I need the garage space back! Hope my obsession goes to a good home.”

Nice wagon and a good color combo. Seems high for an unrestored wagon. Love to see the aluminum valve cover cleaned up and the tailgate hinge repainted.
