UPDATE: Still Available.
(03/03/2015) It’s been a few years since it ran. Has a Newgren 3 Point Hitch.
“Rare Willys Agri-Jeep 1948 with PTO and 3 point hitch, has rust, was running a few years ago, has aluminum plate on back bumper for 3 pt. hitch. Price is firm. Serious inquires only. No text messages please.”
Now that’s patina! Very cool and mostly original. I love that it has a pto and a governor. I like it. Back in the day, I wonder if one would prefer the Newgren over the Monroe 3 pt. because the bed could still be used?
It is missing the three point arms and adjustors, which could run into some serious money. Does have cool patina and a governor (or at least the handle)
The monroe was a more versatile hitch than the Newgren, but the newgren took up less room, and you can raise it up and down from either the front or the back. Did the Monroe have down pressure? That I don’t know. The Monroe did have a few weak points as I’ve seen many of them with broken castings and such, but they are very cool looking.
The Monroe units did produce downforce. It made them ideal for plowing and running a post hole digger. Monroe bought out Newgren in 1948. Monroe units were sold thru the mid fifties. I am looking for lift arm parts for a monroe unit.
As the owner of a working Newgren lift I do have a few comments. The hitch is great in the it takes up very little space. Was fairly easy to install. The drawbacks are that the original valving is the most crude hydraulic valve I’ve ever seen. There are not even o rings in it at all. When you let it down, it slams down. The hitch is a little crude compared to the monroe. The adjusters for leveling require tools, which the Monroe did not.
