UPDATE: **SOLD** to an eWillys reader (thanks to this post).

This is a mix of CJ-2A and M-38 parts. The auction is Saturday the 10th.

“We are selling this nice jeep at an estate auction on Saturday the 10th. It will be held at the estate in Fountain Hills and I was told by the family that it was running but there was a fuel problem and that’s why the gas tank is out of it. Looks like all the parts are there, the seats are out but there and the fuel tank is there and some new parts. Over all the jeep seems to be in great shape.
it is sold as is but we can tell you all we know about it. The owner has died and the family are the ones selling off the estate..Thanks”

The tailgate is a CJV-35/U unit. M-38 production units did not have WILLYS stamped in the center space as did the CJV-35/U units. It could have been grafted in or maybe a repop tailgate, but to me, it looks like the real deal CJV-35/U type.

As I understand it, the CJ-V35U tailgate was the same as the CJ-3A tailgate? Or am I mistaken on that (I searched for an interior photo of an original CJ-V35U tailgate, but had no luck finding one.

Same as the M-38 tailgate with the exception of the “Willys” logo in the raised middle section. CJ-3A tailgate does not have holes drilled for spare tire bracket, gas can holder, gas can strap bracket. Also, CJ-3A tailgate does not have the reinforcement brackets on the inside and on each side of the tailgate for added strength for the above mentioned items.
