Year? DJ-3A Valley View, TX Estate Sale

Charles spotted this Surrey-like jeep. It looks to me like an early, basic DJ-3A to which someone added some surrey trimmings. No price or description provided, other than the seller describes it as a “1953”, which would be three years before the first DJ was introduced. Still, it looks like a fun rig to drive around town. It’s for sale the weekend of May 12-14.

It looks like a combination of ingredients to make this Jeep look like a Surrey. The engine apears to have an early MB or CJ cylinder head on it. Probably an early DJ3A body tub, interior is not correct, nor are the windshield straps. It has a tailgate and the taillights are from CJ3A or very early DJ3A. Without seeing the serial number, we don’t know for sure what year it is or if it is even a DJ3A by title. Small hubcaps, rool bar, no rear bumper, just bumperettes, all signs of it not being an original Surrey from late 59-64.

Do we know when DJs went from the plain hubcaps with just a W to the fancier hubcaps with the engraved circles?
