    Dave: As far as I know they all came with the CJ3A tire carrier holes drilled, so all M38s have these holes

    I see my confusion. I thought I saw spare tire mount holes in a square lower on the fender than they should have been. Taking a second look, I see the proper diamond holes. And, a couple of the “squarely” arranged holes look like dirt now. I think I go cross-eyed after looking at too many jeeps. Thanks!

    Dave, Carl is correct. My MC-38 has holes on the side. There is a brace on the inside of the wheel well. Bolts are installed in the holes on my vehicle. The military was trying to buy off the shelf items to save money so they used CJ-3A bodies. Some MC-38’s had radios mounted in the back so a field modification was to mount the spare on the side.
