Sunday’s drive from Aurora to Harrisburg

Day 22: I’m hoping to have some regular updates for Tuesday morning …

We said our goodbyes on Sunday and drove from Aurora, Ohio, to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. We’ve got a tentative schedule that depends on whether a few folks have time to meet with us. So, as always the situation is fluid.

We know for sure that we will be going to the Hershey’s Chocolate World on Tuesday morning and the Crayola Experience on Wednesday morning. Wednesday/Thursday nights we will be staying with a cousin in downtown Philadelphia. Friday we hope to be driving down through Delaware. Memorial Weekend will be in Richmond, Virginia.

Tentative schedule from Monday May 21st through Monday May 28th

This is the tentative schedule for after Memorial Day Weekend. Stops include potentially a couple readers, a couple stops at Alaska Or Rust Crew homes, Route 66 Hall of Fame, a few Route 66 places, Will Rogers museum, Dorothy’s House in Kansas, Monument Rocks. We think we’ll be back home June 6th.

From Monument Rocks, we’ll take I-70, then cut up to Salt Lake, then home.

    Dave,
Great Trip. You may want to stop at AJP and see George. You are very close to his shop in Bristol, PA just North of Phila. He is a wealth of knowledge and has some very nice restored jeeps. Be safe.

I figure you guys have your stops pretty nailed down but I see you headed through Norfolk and Newport news. If you can, check out the Battleship Wisconsin . really awesome to stand under 16 inch guns !! they also have a Navy combat simulator in the visitor cntr there that was very eye opening. Oh and while in Virginia I always pick up some Bowman Brothers small batch Bourbon !! Comes from Fredericksburg and Its Yummy !! Keep an Eye out for ferial Jeeps and Civil war battlefields . There all over the place!

    Hi Dave,

If you have a chance stop in Chestertown, Maryland on the Easrern Shore … You won’t regret it.

This coming weekend is ‘Tea Party’ weekend with the Budweiser Clydesdales and resident colonial schooner “SULTANA.”

    I live in Chestertown.

    Best wishes,

hahahahaha ? you went through NEWPORT NEWS ? that’s my birthplace , actually PORTSMOUTH right next door , haven’t been back since 1955 ? how is it ?

Steve: I’ve emailed George, and I have confirmed he got the email, but I haven’t heard back.

Mark: Thanks for the suggestions. We are still awaiting confirmation on a stop in Delaware. If that stop doesn’t happen, then we may consider an alternate route. I doubt we’ll have time to do much sightseeing in Delaware. Our principal mission is to get to Richmond to help out my cousin and visit with her.

John C.: A quick detour through Chestertown is a real possibility. Part of it depends on our yet-to-be finalized stop in Georgetown, DE.

John N. W.: We haven’t gone through there yet … it wouldn’t be until Friday.

Be sure to check out the AACA Museum in Hershey. It’s one of the best car museums in the country.

Thanks Buz … we went in 2013. Instead of the AACA, we have an appointment to see a private jeep collection.
