Chad reminded me that I hadn’t done a post yet on the Big Willy Mutant Jeep, a project meant to be a supersized, trail capable, jeep. The build is being documented on Facebook using both video and photos: https://www.facebook.com/BigWillyJeep/

Although a creative project, other then that, what purpose does it serve? This is not criticism, just an honest statement on life. To undertake such a fantasy project, one would need a lot of play money and excess time on their hands. Unless you have a corporate sponsor picking up the tab, what is the point? IN EXCESS. I suppose that’s what makes America Great ? Give this some thought.

I think Big Willy is fantastic! Another example of an amazing dream turned into reality by hard work. Well done.

Looks like it could be interesting. Too bad they posted their build to Facebook rather than their own website.

I agree with Mike. This vehicle is too big for most of the trails in my areas. Is a well done project. I do like it.

To answer Mike’s question I guess the ‘ugly answer’ is because ‘mines bigger than yours’.

The ‘nicer answer’ is because sometimes we do things to see if we can….seems like alot of work so could be ‘promotion’ related….simply stated it’s all about attention in some form or another.

I guess I can relate to the guy. I spent years researching and writing SLAG, knowing it would cost me money (in travel, research, and opportunity costs) and probably not make any money from it. But, I do not regret it at all. It was something I HAD to do. Sometimes, you have to chase your dragons to tame them.

When I think about doing another crazy project instead of asking myself “Why?” I ask “Why Not?”
    “Why Not” usually wins

actually I do see a use for this MUTANT JEEP — BURNING MAN FESTIVAL — STARTING 8/26/18 — ENDS LABOR DAY — ALL THE HIPPIES ON THE ” LSD ” WOULD REALLY FREAK OUT — WHEN THEY SAW IT — IN FACT ALL OF THE ART-CARS ON THE DESERT PLAYA ARE CALLED ” MUTANT VEHICLES “

That’s a good idea. It’s certainly wide enough (desert floor stretching for miles)!

I do believe it is being completed for burning man next week. On Instagram, where I’ve been following the build, it is outfitted with lights and a giant sound system. Part of the Burning Man experience is to bring something for the community, so they’re bringing the art-car and what is effectively a mobile disco.

We were able to see the Big Willy at SEMA on Friday! Then we ran into the owner in a parking lot while driving our “normal sized” ’48 CJ-2A! Great dude and the vehicle is amazing! Especially parked next to ours! You truly get a size difference with it sitting next to a Flatfender!

Ian liljeblad her the builder of BIG WILLY. Thank you for all the compliments and criticism. I built BW to honor our veterans, Burning Man and just for fun. Nothing more nothing less. This is my art and art is meant to provoke emotion and it seems it has done just that. Good or bad it makes people think and puts smiles on faces. I win.

    Thank you the support
