A Couple Requests

We were on the road all day, so just a few updates today. Ann and I drove over to Kelso to see the Bobcat and Parkette fiberglass molds Al Schaper and I bought back in 2015 and meet with Jerry, a guy who has agreed to buy them. He is the same person involved in the production of the RCD fiberglass hoods that appeared on the market. He’s hoping to expand the offering of fiberglass products for the old flat fenders. Jerry’s been a long time jeep guy and is currently building a CJ-3B. So, stayed tuned!

Now for the requests:

  1. Andy is hoping to find a Garwood Dump Bed instruction booklet (like the one sold on ebay shown below). He’s rebuilding the hydraulics and hoping to have some guidance. If anyone knows of any instructions it would be a BIG help to him. Feel free to comment below or email me directly at d@ewillys.com.

  2. Gayland’s wondering if anyone has any factory Dualmatic hub documentation? I have not run across anything other than this document published by Sean on the CJ-2A page:

Usually not much to the hydraulics on something like that. Since there’s two cylinders they should be tee’d together from the valve that goes to the pump. guessing it’s gravity down

While I don’t have instructions I also have a fc170 with a dump bed. Haven’t looked at it for quite some time. Guess I don’t know if it’s a garwood.

Based on the picture, I agree with Dave from Mn, that it is likely gravity “down” (single acting cylinder). Easy way to tell is if there are lines to both ends of the cylinders (double acting cylinder). That would power “up” & power “down”. The control valve would also be different between the two styles of single and double acting, and then one of two categories, open center or closed center. This can also be affected by whether the system pumps constantly or intermittently. A PTO driven pump would circulate oil constantly, diverted to a cylinder when needed, or an electric drive may operate only when the control valve is manipulated.

    Hey Dave,

Thanks for posting my request looking for the manual. The GarWood Dump-o-Matic should be a gravity down system. I’ve got it apart to the cylinders, just need some assistance on how the cylinder is supposed to come apart, so I can try to rebuild them. The man I purchased it from hooked it to his tractor, with just 1 line, when he dragged it behind. In scouring for info on the FC-170 dump beds, it looks like al Gar-Woods were dual cylinder, the Jayhawks look like one cylinder. Jayhawks stake bed styles had more metal put under the frame, where as the Gar-Woods used intricately cut painted planks to straighten out the frame contours for when the bed came to a rest. If anyone runs across the manual, I’d love to see it, we are soaking the top of the cylinders in PB pretty heavily now, looking to find a snap ring, notch, or other way to remove.
