(08/10/2015) Looks solid. Has a cowl bench seat?

“Very clean, and near original 1948 Willy CJ2 , engine was rebuilt some years back and it runs sweet & quiet, very low miles/hours. only used during deer season for the majority of its life. Parked indoors and covered. Runs great – all original engine, trans is tight, original 6 volt system with new battery, no major dents or impacts, paint is nice, suspension is good and OEM, has military tires and I have 2 spares. This is a very rare find, it is NOT modified or torn up. These are tough to find in stock condition these days, could be used as is, or an excellent restoration vehicle for full on resto. (more fun to use though). NO TRADES”

is the exhaust high on the rear corner a factory thing for some models, or a vestige of a high water kit?

That’s not factory at all. The exhaust exits out the rear passenger corner at an angle. I’d be worried about my kids burning themselves. It could be a coin drop for a 30 second willys ride 😉

Also… it looks as if the horn is outside on the passenger front fender, and I can’t quite figure what’s going on on the running board / fender step to that side…

    any help?

I think the thing on the fender is designed to hold something. The high exhaust is a riot, but maybe they went through a lot of mud and water and such?

I was thinking it may have something to do with the forward pole on some version of soft top? It just looks like a water catcher…

This Jeep is not original, but is modified as a hunting Jeep. The cowl seat is unique, but would give a hunter a better view of what was ahead of the Jeep. Hunting from an open vehicle is pretty much illegal in most states now on public land, but not necessarily on private hunting preserves. The bracket on the running board is to hold the butt stock of a rifle or shotgun, while the cowl rider holds the barrel or forward stock. There is also a rack for a rifle or shotgun mounted between the front seats. The stock exhaust would have exited out of the right rear corner of the body with the muffler mounted crossways behind the rear axle. If this was used to hunt birds in open fields, I can see the use of the high mounted exhaust so as to not set any grass or dried vegetation on fire while sitting still, idling the engine. (Remember the fires that catalytic converters caused when cars first were equipped with them. Back in the late 70s and early 80s, Arizona DPS lost several patrol cars due to idling along the highways in weeded areas.)

My guess is that the sloped-top box on the cowl is for rifle storage. The perimeter of the lid appears to have a row of snaps, and the hood isn’t dented from having folks walking on it.
