1950? Parts Department Brochure on eBay

This is an odd brochure. It’s titled, “Let’s Keep Them Running”. The front page has some of the poorer illustrated trucks and wagons. All the vehicles look a little off in terms of size and styling.

I’ve seen some of these “Funky cartoon style” drawings now & then, The Sunshine Makers, a 1935 animated film, re-released by Borden’s Milk Co. in 1940, featured Divco milk trucks in this style of cartooning. I think these Willys vehicle illustrations are a deliberate attempt to copy that style.

Im not sure this is really that unusual in OEM marketing. If you look at the marketing brochures of most manufacturer’s new vehicles back when our Willys were new, the illustrations are out of proportion. The people are almost always smaller than real life, the vehicles larger, longer hoods, taller tires, etc. If people were as they are illustrated, we could put four adults comfortably in each of our bench seats.
