Great story 🙂 ! I wonder how many they recovered… and if any are still buried there?

Many were disposed of intentionally at the end of the war this way. On some islands they are still a diving destination. Contemporary photos Ive seen dont lead one to think they could be recovered for any real purpose. At this point they are more a rusted together reef.

LT. V.D. JOHNSON ? — WELL , LIKE MY NAVY CPO PEARL HARBOR HERO FATHER USED TO SAY — V.D. ? THE LINE FORMS TO THE LEFT — HIS INITIALS WERE V.D. — AND THERE WAS ALWAYS SOME KIND OF MIXUP WHEN HE WENT TO THE CLINIC — OR WHEN HE SPOKE TO THE CHAPLAIN — AND GUESS WHAT ? — MY INITIALS ARE V.D. , AS ARE MY SONS — A LONG LINE OF V.D’S — AND NOT A DISEASE IN THE BUNCH ..
