Metro Engineering’s Hardtop w/ Wood Doors

Carl pointed out to me that the Cab Enclosure hardtop for the M-38A1 (by Metro Engineering) used plywood doors (all the time? sometimes?). Anyone have insights on this?

Here are two examples.
This video was taken in Salt Lake City (Avenues area) and shows and M-38A1 with plywood doors.

And, This thread on G503 includes the below pics of plywood doors.

This sounds like a S–T-R-E-T-C-H to me, where are the facts to back up this statement, no logic. Why would a company go to the extent of manufacturing a complete top out of metal materials, then only the doors out of plywood? Think about it. More than likely, above pictures are of homemade doors. As Jack Webb would say; “The facts man, just the facts”.

I have an original 1952 M38A1 with the same 4 piece insulated hard top and wood doors. It came from a base in Colorado and sat in a backyard in Denver for over 30 years. The plywood doors edges are trimmed with steel strips. I was also told it was original and common for the A1 with artic top. I can’t get a picture to attach here but they were military issue. I also have a M38A1 with that top and those exact wooden doors. I did a lot of research on the reason for wooden doors. There is some information on the above link, but I found no conclusive evidence on the reason for using plywood. Another Willys mystery, maybe ewillys readers can solve.

Information for a future, updated post, if time permits …

There are examples of multiple jeep owners have original wood doors, as noted in the comments herein and this link http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=3564&highlight=

Notes: A series of contracts fulfilled by several vendors explains, in part, why there’s confusion around these tops. It appears they were initially made for CJ-2As, then for M-38s, then for M-38a1s, then sold as a civilian top (probably surplus). Metro Engineering and Pentagon (others?) manufactured the tops, possibly at first as “Arctic Tops”, then later as “Cab Enclosures”. To get the full story would likely require researching contract numbers.
