Ted shared this unusual blend of a Surrey and a Tux Park. It sure looks nice. The seller doesn’t mention that the Surrey upgrades are incorrect for this model, but the seller is correct that if you want something unique to bring to a jeep event, this qualifies.

“1965 Jeep CJ-5A Tuxedo Park Mark IV – An “upscale” Jeep was named after the upscale Tuxedo Park in New York, which was the birthplace of the tuxedo. Elvis drove a similar Jeep in the 1965 movie “Tickle Me” which also starred Julie Adams. Tuxedo Park Jeeps were also driven in President Lyndon Johnson’s inaugural parade in January, 1965.
This special edition Jeep came standard with chrome bumpers, wheel covers, column shift, fold-down rear license plate, fold-down windshield, and a little more highway-friendly rear gear. Standard running gear is a 4-cylinder engine and 3-Speed manual transmission. Optional equipment on this one includes the surrey interior & top, 4-Wheel-drive, and “full” passenger seat. It has been retrofitted with seat belts for safety. Just like Elvis’ Tuxedo Park, this one is finished in Marlin Blue.
This gorgeous Carolina example is free of rust and has had a recent cosmetic restoration. It is showing 30K miles and that is believed to be original as documented by some 15-years of inspection receipts. Also included are the original owner’s manual, sales brochure, and the model that was made in tribute to Elvis’ movie. It also includes a cover for the surrey top as well as a full top and doors. It runs and drives as it should and is very dependable.
$38,500.00, Gorgeous Jeep done to perfection, but what are the odds of it selling at that price? I f I remember correctly, about 2 years ago, there was a 1966 tux in ceramic color paint with a surrey theme for sale for around 15 grand in California, and had a hard time selling at that price. I don’t know where these prices, seemed to be pulled out of the sky. I went to a car show over the weekend near me, RK Motors Classic Cars, a few overdone CJ5’s in pristine condition done up as mud runners, with high gloss paint jobs and not a speck of mud. But that’s my point, if I owned a Jeep that looked this beautiful, I wouldn’t want to take it out in the mud. So I ask this question, Why would I want to own such a vehicle?
Same with this above mentioned TUX, is it a Jeep or is it a trailer queen?
There is a saying my Italian friends have; “Butona” which translate to kept woman. This is how I view owning one of these so called high priced vehicles, i keep it as long as I keep throwing money at it. My view of the world, part one.
