The eBay buy-it-now price of $6500 looks like a good price. Could be a USMC jeep.

“This 1953 M38A1 is in good condition considering its age, starts easily, and the engine runs well. If you are a collector, restorer, or just someone who loves fun vehicles, this is a rare gem and a great island toy and should not be missed!

This vehicle was purchased in 2005 fully restored. It includes all of the cool features of the M38A1 such as the 24 volt electrical system, the blackout lights, foot starter switch, 3 speed transmission with low/high transfer, rear mounted gas can, and more.

The vehicle has held up very nicely with respect to rust damage as you can see from the picture. Even the compartment below the passenger seat (a common place for rust damage to first become severe) is still in good condition. Note that much of the brown (and some white) you can see on the body is due to an overzealous family member spraying primer onto it (not rust). It still starts up quickly, idles nicely, and we drive it around the neighborhood with the kids from time to time for a treat. See condition section for more details.

If you are into vintage military jeeps, cool Americana, or looking for a restoration project with a solid foundation, this is a great vehicle.”

Very nice original. It has the 60’s rear lift bumper. I’ve seen other early models with these. Check with Wesk at WILLYSMJEEPS.com on these lift bumpers.

They are probably using this right now. Nantucket and Martha’s Vinyard got wailed on yesterday with 90 MPH winds . (Big Nor easter) Everything is dark out there but hey, if you want to live on a rock in the middle of the ocean…….

this is really nice if it is really rust free. The extra paint overspray looks like a model railroader got a hold of it and weathered it. The way prices are lately it seems like a decent price.

Well, if it’s the one I think it is, it’s a few houses away from Sankaty lighthouse, about a mile from where I am. The 80-90 mph winds the other night kept us inside, but we didn’t lose power much less any shingles,
