page 2. Atomic Blast To Test Willys Vehicles. Well that explains it! Around 1973 I was stationed at a Navy radio station in Stockton CA where the government also had a large property disposal office (PDO). Saw a train load of mid-50s Willys trucks, wagons and panels come onto the base for auction. Faded chalk white with faded black stenciling on the doors UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION for official use only. So I had to ask, “From where?” Answer: Nevada test site. Don’t laugh, I know which surplus dealers bought them. Always wondered if they’d glow in someone’s garage.

About this time, the decision was made to discontinue Willys car production. The Custom and Bermuda models lines were stopped. Does anyone know the actual date production ceased and Serial Numbers involved? I thought we might see an announcement in Willys News.

Barney: That’s just scary. I hope, at the very least, they ran detectors on them before they left Nevada!
