1946 CJ-2A Harrisonburg, VA **SOLD**

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2500.

The engine is from Kaiser-Frazer, so isn’t original to the jeep. I believe the disassembled photos are the latest ones.

“”46″ Jeep CJ2A , 1st year available to for civilian purchase. All original parts to re- assemble. Was going to do a frame off restoration but am going a different way. Comes with a top, doors, and plow. Has the original supersonic 4 cylinder motor. Currently sitting in my garage out of the weather. Would be a good restoration or an opportunity to add an SMC motor to make an off road vehicle. Do not have a title so I would supply a bill of sale to acquire one.”

Dave, I saw the Facebook photo of the engine’s Kaiser serial number plate but I can’t tell exactly where on the engine this plate would be located. Do you know?

    Hi Steve,

Well, that took some research to figure out. Apparently, the only Kaiser-Frazer vehicle to have a 4cyl engine was the Henry J. The tag was located under the distributor. The Henry J was meant to be an inexpensive vehicle, so a 4cyl engine was installed, no truck lid was added (to save costs), and it used as few parts as possible. More info here: http://www.eac-1977.com/documents/henry_j-eng.html

Thanks, Dave. The reason I ask is I recently discovered my jeep engine is also out of a Henry J but the 35XXXXX engine serial number is stamped on the water pump boss just like on the CJ2A engines. No serial number plate like on this jeep for sale. Guess I’ll have to carefully check out my engine and see if there are any signs this plate was there.
Will the judges at Amelia Island take points off my jeep if the engine came out of a Henry J ???

Steve, I don’t know enough about Henry Js to answer your question regarding the engine. I can only guess. One theory I have is that the Supersonic engine was an upgrade at some point. A second guess is that early engines were stock L-heads, while later engines in the Henry J were Supersonic?

These folks could probably answer you question: http://kfclub.com/forum/index.php

Those judges would have to know jeeps really really well in order to spot the difference (most car judges don’t, at least based on some of the ‘stock’ jeeps I’ve seen win trophies). I pretty much doubt they’d notice …

WHAT ?? — ALL KAISER HENRY J 4 CYLINDER MODELS HAD THE SUPERSONIC HEAD — THE 6 CYLINDER MODELS ALSO SAID SUPERSONIC , L-161 — I HAVE BOTH ENGINES AND THE SUPERSONIC 226 MODEL — IT WOULDNT HAVE BEEN RIGHT TO OPEN THE HOOD AND SEE ” WILLYS ” ON YOUR KAISER ENGINE ?

Vernon, Steve’s point was that he doesn’t have the KF badge. That’s why he’s confused (and I don’t know enough about these to answer his question).
