Photo of DJ-3A Dispatcher in Indonesia on eBay

• CATEGORIES: DJ-3A, Features, Old Images

UPDATE: Carl noted that ‘WILLYS’ is backwards. Good think there are smarter folks than I who read this site!

This photo seems to be good timing as I’m reading “Krakatoa: The Day the World Exploded“, which is a history and geography lesson about Krakatoa as it leads up to the 1883 explosion. So far, about half way through, I highly recommend it.

Anyway, either the spare tire was moved to the driver’s side OR the photo is reversed and the Indonesia driver is on the vehicle’s right side. Given Indonesian’s drive on the left-hand side of the road, I’d say the photo is reversed. Note the jeep is a column shift.

Obviously the building has flipped, so my guess is it is a left hand drive made safer by moving the spare to driver’s view instead of in “blind spot”. Nice DJ.
