This issue of Jeep News is interesting in that the whole middle section focuses on the rise in jeep clubs. It isn’t an exhaustive list, but rather simply a list of clubs in contact with Jeep News, with a heavy emphasis on western clubs.

Note the CJ-6 hardtop on page 7. It’s a custom top built by Koenig. I don’t have it in my records, so keep a watch for it. It’s probably still out there somewhere, most likely still in Texas. Note also the scale model FC-170 giveaway and certificate with each FC-170 purchase on page 2.

Dave, that list of jeep clubs doesn’t just have a heavy western emphasis, it’s 100% western. Maybe the eastern recreational jeeps groups weren’t well organized at this time.
And I have a gut feeling someone driving that CJ-6 carelessly tore that bulging high top off on a low hanging obstruction. If so it’s gone for good. 😥

    Steve,

Yes, I may have understated the case. I don’t know the early history of clubs on the east coast, but I’d be surprised if there weren’t clubs on the east coast by 1960.

Colin … glad you are enjoying them. Yeah, I have seen no documentation on when “Gala” was dropped. But, I’ll keep an eye out for it.
