1946 Ad in Alabama for the new ‘Jeep’

This June 27, 1946, ad by the Little Motor Company in Alabama’s The Baldwin Times Bay  newspaper is one of the better full-page adds that I’ve seen.

    Note the misspelled name for Willys at the bottom of the page (Willis). In fact, that’s actually the correct phonetic pronunciation for the Willys family name.

    Barney,

    I’d never heard a person actually pronounce Willys as “Willis” until I started traveling to jeep events outside the Pacific Northwest. I know “Willis” is the correct, but it just sounds too odd to this old man (who is feeling particularly old after this week’s long drive). 🙂
