The last article brings back good memories as I served 3 1/2 years with the Navy on that base in Stockton. It had a large civilian Property Disposal Office (PDO – now DRMO) where they would get civilian and military equipment in for auction to the public or redistribution to other agencies. I once saw a trainload of Willys trucks, wagons and panels brought on the base for auction when the Atomic Energy Commission replaced their aging fleet. S&S Surplus Sales in Sun Valley CA bought most of them. ACME Truck Parts was also located in Stockton where you could find surplus military Jeeps. In the mid-70s they were auctioning M38A1s. M422 Mighty Mites and early M151s. I did use my own Jeep to go deer hunting in the forests in the Shasta / Lassen areas of N. CA. Great Time and good memories!
