April 1970 Jeep Family Brochure

This April 1970 brochure contains some good jeep photos. I’m not very familiar with the “2-Car Car” campaign, so I’ll see if I can figure out when it began and when it ended.

This jeep family brochure is Form 70-04, which to me suggests it is an April 1970 brochure. However, at the bottom of the brochure is written ” Feb-70′ “.

    I’ve never seen this brochure before, judging from the size of the turn signal parking lights on the Jeepster models, I would guess 1970.

    Bill, I see why at first glance you might think this, but I don’t believe the context supports it. The 2car car sub-logo is used after each model, not just the CJ in this brochure. As Americans moved to being 2-car families, Jeep promoted itself as being the 2nd, and practical vehicle to have. (Notwithstanding the 1970 Catalogue title). That said, absent the title and ending scribble, The features shown in the photos of the CJs date to the mid-69 changes including the larger front signals, full arched-glass windshield, and side marker lamps. One thing I found interesting in the Optional equipment page was the indication that a 4-speed transmission (T-18) was only available with the F-4 motor. We have in our collection a ’71 with the V6 (shown in the right hand column ad) with the 6:1 T18 from the factory and was so ordered to push the Ramsey 8000 PTO winch, also installed at the factory.

    Hi Barney,

    I didn’t explain myself very well- my wife is right about me…I didn’t me the CJ5 specifically, but that the 462 was an introduction to the 2 car marketing concept. Some people have speculated that, but I have no proof.

    Thanks guys. I’ll see what I can dig up. I haven’t done much research into the late 1960s advertising.
