Over the weekend we moved 99.99% of our stuff to the new place. We were only able to accomplish that goal due to the help of Ann’s family (a hearty thank you to all of them who helped). As you can see in pic below, taken after the first two rounds of moving, there was quite a bit of stuff. Once much of these items (aka crap) was put into the upper-level storage, a third round filled the shop again. Thankfully, we have a ton of storage in the upper level of the shop (note the hole in the back wall near the ceiling; that’s a winch-lift setup to elevate stuff into the storage area), so we can store a bunch of stuff until the MIL passes (then a bunch goes away).
The next step is to get the kitchen arranged to my satisfaction, then turn my attention back to the shop-office. It needs paint and updating. After that, I can move everything into it. Then, attention will turn to the woodshed area (paint, hang over head lights, setup up shop vac PVC system). Once that’s done, then the shop itself will get clean and arranged. I suspect this will take a couple weeks.
As for when updates will resume, we still don’t have broadband internet. Only DSL is available in our area at this point (though we were told that for $50,000 we could get Spectrum cable–Spectrum is still a few country blocks away from our place–to which we said thanks, but no thanks). My hope is to return to regular updates by Monday May 10th.

We do plan on trying out Starlink once it is available. We did check, but it isn’t available (I think my wife added us to the list once it is ready).
Thankfully, we have room to store all the junk pictured. We just have to get the rooms ready to house it first.

Years ago, I was in the same position regarding Internet connectivity from the cable company. They announced it was going to be available on a specific date a few months from the date of the flyer I received (and kept). When that date came and went, I called them and was told they stopped approximately 1 mile away from me and that my area would be built out in “2-3 years”. After getting them to agree to study the issue “just for me” (because I threatened to report them to the FCC for anti-competitive behavior), they claimed it wouldn’t work.
At that time, I was a VP at a telephone company which used microwave to extend our network from our fiber optic wired network to the customer’s buildings. I was within line of sight of one of the company’s fiber hubs about 2 miles away. I could, for a fee of about $250 a month, get 100mb/s to my house and there would be no equipment cost. Further, that $250 would cover up to 6 houses, so I could bring my cost down to about $60 if I agreed to put a round antenna (instead of a dish) on my chimney and run some cable tv wire to my neighbors. In effect, I’d be my own Internet supplier.
I sent the cable company the engineering drawings, and told them I was prepared to go ahead, with my employer doing all the work. I did it on my company letterhead. Apparently, this caused the cable company to come up with a different plan. That 2-3 years became 10 days as they somehow figured out to extend the Internet that last mile. Funny how competition wakes them up!
At my lake community, we have our Internet come to a tower we own. Everything on it is solar powered. From there, we use shotgun antennas to bring it down to our buildings and provide public wifi to those nearby our buildings. The cost for all that, way more than you’d ever need in your situation, was under $10k.
Congrats on finally having everything under one roof……or several roofs, but all on the same property!
I always remember in many, many moves and now moves with our daughter’s families…….the great feeling of at least having everything under one roof. Now the fun part…..slowly ? finding a spot for everything and turning it into a home. Have fun

Dan: Ann and I are both exhausted (when I am so tired that I FORGET to do updates, you know I’m tired!!), but we’ll get through it. The old house goes on the market next week, so that will be a huge burden off our shoulders. The Walker zero-turn Mower arrived Wednesday, so that was an immediate boost in my ability to mow. Tractor should come on Friday, so that will be a big help, too.
Craig: I have most definitely NOT done much research on the connectivity options. I left that to my wife and MIL. I’ve just been too busy fixing/lifting/packing/moving/driving/ to take on that. There just has to be better options than Centurylink out here.
Keith: Yep, that’s a mint, barely used Jet table saw (you can’t see the other Jet equipment in the same shape). Long story, but my MIL bought the equipment, then never used it. I married into it. I can’t wait to get the woodshop painted and lights hung, so I can test all them equipment!
