**SOLD** Was $6500.

(02/02/2021) It’s still got the footman loops on the fenders, so it looks like it may have been a Surrey at some point.

Yeah, I wonder if the seller replaced a Surrey body with a standard DJ body. Or, they just cut the tub for a tailgate.

Was probably a base DJ3A before. Serial number might help. The footman loops on the fenders don’t really amount to much to identify it as a Surrey.

    Colin,

I agree it’s a weak argument, but I can’t remember seeing footman loops on the fender of standard CJs.

It does have the valance between the grille and front bumper, it does have some Surrey indicators along with the footman loops on the fenders. The tailgate throws it off, but like SteveK says, Never say Never with Willys!!!

In my humble opinion the Surrey description is used very loosely, either to draw buyers in as a “HOOK” or the seller is somewhat lacking in knowledge. When in doubt, lets see some scratch marks that show pink paint.

Clem …. somethings in life remain a mystery. This seems one of those things ….

As I mentioned before, the serial number would help determine the origin of this Jeep. The front chrome bumper, valance panel, pink steering wheel and footman loops are four items that help identify a Surrey. The tailgate, plate over the spare tire bolts and the rear crossmember with the hitch are detractors from the Surreys as we know them, but more information(photos, etc,) is needed.

You guys that can see the pink on the steering wheel vs reflection, must have some amazing zoom/monitor capabilities. These old eyes could use that. Most of the Surrey items identified are “bolt-ons” while the tailgate is not that simple. That said, a stock DJ Dispatcher tailgate would have a “swing-down tag light/mount” where that tailgate says “Willys”. Here’s a pic of one on a specimen on eWillys DJ3A page…

I’m surprised this hasn’t sold. It’s a NICE looking, running flatfender Willys Jeep (albeit 2WD) at a decent price.

I just got off the phone with Gary, the seller, in Angels Camp, CA, and he had just sold this Jeep a few minutes before I called him. He gave me the serial number, 56337 19146, and described the Jeep as being a Surrey, and it did have the grab handles and the brackets for the straps on it at one time. This Jeep was built 34 Jeeps before my Surrey. I think we can count this as a Surrey. I will add it to my database as a Surrey.
