I missed out on this Quincy Air compressor brochure model 216-s. It was for sale on eBay last week.

This is a little confusing. Seller calls this a CJ-6A engine, but the tag reads CJ-3A. It’s a flathead, so the CJ-6A designation seems incorrect.
“For sale is a 1963 Hesse Hornet compressor made by the Hesse Carriage Co. It was designed to sit in the back of a pick-up or on it’s own small trailer. This particular Hesse uses a rare Jeep Kaiser 4cyl CJ-6A engine. It pumps air by having two of the 4 cylinders blocked off to compress while the other two function normally. The engine itself looks good and runs great. It may need a small tune-up from storage but nothing major. It does not come with a battery or gas tank. I tested it by rigging up a temporary tank.

Here’s a neat compressor.
“Vintage 1963 Hesse Hornet powered by a 63 Jeep Kaiser 4 Cyl engine. Engine works by using two cyl to pump air into the compressor while the other two function normally. I haven’t started it but it appears to be in full working order. Asking 750 obo”
This is such an oddball, that I thought if it was military, someone might see value in it.
“Here we have for your bidding pleasure is a 1945 GMC Military Truck equipped with an original Leroi Air Compresser unit and a sandblast pot, we were told from a person who has had some knowledge of older military trucks that there were just under 1100 of these units built for the war and they were used in the construction and maintenance of bridges during that time. As far as we know the truck is all original as it was made and as we were also told that they where constructed between the years of 1940 to 1942, we do have the original books for the aircompresser unit and some other literature pertaining to the truck itself, it has been sitting for about 7 years and we were told by the facility we received it from that it was in running condition at that time, as of right now you are buying it not operable, as one can see by the pictures it is all complete including the front winch, all tires are in fair shape, we have filled the front tire up that was flat in the pictures and it has held air for a couple of weeks now, this truck we feel is very rare find and how many are really left?? We do have a transferable registration, we can also load on any truck or trailer that one may have. I’m guess the compressor itself doesn’t work? This looks similar, yet different from the Hesse Hornet Compressor.

These aren’t the greatest brochure examples, but I’ve never run across brochures for A. J. Parsons equipment. Also included are a couple go-for-digger plow documents. The price is crazy.

“This is a Willy’s Go Devil engine. This is an engine that has a conversion kit on it to make it into an air compressor. The engine is stuck, not blown up! The generator is missing also the air tank, air gauge, and fuel tank. I put some trans fluid in all of the cylinders about five months ago. The block is not cracked! It was built between 1945-1955. If you are restoring a Willy’s Jeep and need a engine this would work well for that.
I just don’t have the time to work on it right now, so I would rather re-home it than let it sit and collect dust any longer.”
Patterson has a Harrison Heater, common in the early DJ-3As. Attached at the bottom of the dash is an Ark-Less four position switch (Off, Low, Medium, High) that controls the fan speed. The switch wasn’t delivering current, so I spent the day figuring out how to pull it apart and clean it up in the hopes that the switch could be resurrected.
The switch is held together by a long pin in the center. The switch also rotates on this pin. To remove the pin, the rounded edges on the pin must be drilled/pressed together/or someone modified. I chose to drill out the ends.

Now, here’s my switch. It received some paint when Patterson was repainted (I believe the paint was touched up some at some point). Once I drilled out the end of the pin a little, I used the nail to push the pin through.
Here’s the other side of the pin. Now that it is sticking up, I can remove it.
Pin removed. I didn’t put much pressure on the pin when I first pushed it through, so I *think* the pin was already bent somehow.

Rick Webb shared what he knows about the history of General Supply Compressors & Hesse Compressors. His father Paul Webb played a principle role in the compressor’s development. I’ve included pics below to show how much alike they looked.

Rick began, After reading information on youtube and the forums it seems as though there are a lot of questions concerning the hesse hornet and the gs-260 air compressors.I don’t claim to have all the answers however I can shed some light on the development of these units.
My father, Paul Web, lost his dad at the young age of 24 and took a job at the General Supply and Leasing Company in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1951 as a delivery driver. A division of the McDowell Tire Company, General Supply sold tire changing equipment.
When he took the job he met a man by the name of Dick Roberts who was an engineer. They soon hired a man with the last name of Simes (pronounced “Sims”) whose first name I do not recall.Simes was from Arkansas and was a self taught mechanic. He could not read or write, so they taught him to sign his name so he could cash his paycheck. He never used a torque wrench; however when his engines were tested his torque specs were spot on. “Classic WWII era Jeep Willys CJ 2A up for sale. This Willys has been highly modified with many modern touches.
Drivetrain: The original 4cyl has been replaced with a 1979 Buick 252CI V6 engine that has a torque grid RV cam with a new Holley 4bl 470CFM Truck Avenger carburetor. This carburetor is made for the high angles involved in off roading. It keeps the engine running even when the Jeep is at the tipping point. Engine is also equipped with a AC compressor converted to an Air compressor with a switch on the dash. Exhaust is true duals with flowmaster mufflers. The transmission is a GM turbo 350 3 speed automatic with a 1500rpm low stall converter. These were used in the field for inflating and deflating tires to cross rough terrain including snow and sand. The compressor mounts to the vehicle engine and ran from an alternate fan belt A hose is then ran from under the hood to the tires. (see my other auction)
The Compressor appears to be in NOS condition and turns by hand creating compression.There is a little shelf wear here and there but it’s in good shape with no chips in the castings.”
2) THE HOSE:
