June 1960 Willys Amphibious Tactical Truck Brochure on eBay

At $1499.99, the price on this is a head -ratcher. But, it is an unusual and interesting brochure. It reminds me of the Willys airborne prototype called the Jeeplet or the WAC. Here’s a short video with some pics of it.

Willys Truck Special Service Tools Brochure

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This Essential Special Service Tools for Trucks brochure by the Miller Manufacturing Company appears to have been first published in January of 1948. It was then updated with this second edition in December of 1948.

These aren’t best scans. so I’ve had to do repairs in Photoshop. I’ve actually had this digital brochure scan for several years, but finally had a chance to assembled the scans yesterday, after Maury noted that this has the Willys sign, which would make it the latest document we’ve found with the Willys-Cars-Trucks-J sign on it. There’s a companion brochure for CJ-2As in the post above.

May 1951 Wagon Comparison Brochure

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This 34-page May 1951 Form No. SWC1-10M-551 wagon comparison brochure is one I’d never seen before it hit eBay. The size is about 5.5″ by 11″.  It’s not in the best of shape, but it’s there and readable. The front page has a rectangle cut out so that the table of contents on page three shows through cover.

I wonder if an equivalent brochure was made for the truck? I doubt anything was made for the universal jeep, as there wasn’t much to compare to it by 1951.

UPDATE: I’ve updated this post with a higher quality scan of this brochure.

This is the early 1954 version of truck brochure with the KW stamp, form SD-203-4. It’s the only example I’ve been able to find. The subsequent version, form W-203-5, with a green theme is more commonly found online.

=========================

This post was from August 22, 2012: I show two ads below.  John Bean appears to have built both a FC-150 Model 200-F Fire Jeep, and a FC-150 Model-FJ.  I don’t know what the difference between the two is.

1. This blown up portion of the ad shows the ad for the Model 200-F from a 1960 Ad

2. This ad is from 1959.  I can’t tell what model is shown.  These are two of 12 pages in the brochure.

1950/1951 Willys Sedan Delivery Brochure Black/White

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: Thanks to Joe-in-Mesa, I obtained a yellow version of this same 1950/1951 brochure, though the form number (SD 73 M5 651-1CM the 651 may indicate this was published June of 1951) is different. The only difference between the two that I can see between this one and the brochure at the bottom is the color of the brochure (yellow).

Here is the front:

UPDATE: Originally posted March 3, 2021, this post was part of another post about similar brochures of the period.

Finally, one more, similar Willys Sedan Delivery brochure, only it’s not as large or as colorful as the others. In fact, I’d call it a black, gray and white brochure. It’s form number is SD-M3-73–50M. Given it doesn’t label the Hurricane engine as new, it’s probably later than the other brochures, maybe 1951.

This is the front of the unopened brochure.

Willys-Overland Herman Panel Delivery Van

• CATEGORIES: Features, Old Images, Willys Wagons • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Recently I got a great price on 30+ Willys World news letters from 1974-1985. There were a few interesting nuggets in several issues.

One the cover of the March-April 1982 issue appears this Willys-Overland photo, taken February 2, 1950. The pic shows what W-O called a “Herman Panel Delivery Van”. The model-name itself is curious, as Willys had referred to the earlier (and later) versions  of this van as a Package, Economy, or Delivery Van.

1982-03-04-willys-world

Herman was a van-body manufacturer, as this brochure shows. Note the dual windows on the door. This is similar to what the company designed for Willys-Overland.

herman-gmc-van3

My guess is the Herman Panel Delivery van was a prototype. For some reason, it appears it was never a production model. However, Willys-Overland did work with the Boyertown and Montpelier companies to create a similar version in the late 1950s.

1951 Fire or Brush Truck Butterville, IN $10,000

Andy spotted this fire truck for sale. Note that this truck has been for sale for awhile, but it never appeared in any of my searches (which is a problem FB listings have). I looked through Derek’s archives, but could not find this model. I’d guess it’s best described as a brush fire truck.

I missed out on this rare Australian Jeep Truck brochure (totally spaced the auction). I can see no date or form number on any pages. My guess is that this was published in 1957 or 58.

The description from th auction reads, in part:

I can find no date for this Champion Company Doo-All ‘Jeep” Trailer brochure. Give only CJ-2As are shown, I initially thought this was published around 1948. However, the lack of Jeep wagons or trucks may indicate the brochure was published earlier than that. The from number is S-3-T.

March 1960 Jeep Multi-Stop Truck Brochure

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: This post was originally posted July 29, 2016:

I finally snagged this “Jeep Multi-Stop Truck” brochure off of eBay. It is only seven pages. There are no details provided about the chassis used, but it does use the F-head.

The date on this proposal is March 1960. The first ad I have for the FJ-3 is in 1961. My guess is that this may have been 1) a competing idea for a cheap delivery vehicle or 2) the basis for what was restyled as the FJ-3. That AM General made a version of the Multi-stop right after jeep’s general and Military product division was spun off (1971) into the AM General Corp likely isn’t a coincidence.

According to some magazines of the day, the FJ was considered a Multi-stop van, so the description was used, though I don’t believe it ever appeared in any advertising.  For example, this 1959 article except from Google notes the following, “office requirements for pickup and delivery of mail on multistop routes . The Fleetvan ” Jeeptrucks , equipped with automatic transmissions , will feature compact cargo space , high maneuverability , maximum driver visibility ”

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: This may be the early version of the Value-rater. An updated version with 1960 dates was reportedly published in 1960 according to the March 1960 issue of Jeep News, page two.

This ebay brochure find is not one I’ve seen. Form No. 59-17, it details comparisons between jeep models (FC-150s, FC-170s, Wagons and Trucks) and the competition. I’ll update it with the real pics when I receive the brochure.
