Stanely W. Smale’s Magnetic Sweeper

• CATEGORIES: Features, Old Images

UPDATE: I love it when I can combine old photos with documentation. In this case, I discovered that Stanley W. Smale had filed a patent for his metal sweeper. Stanley filed his Magnetic Sweeper patent on January 10, 1950.

From his patent: “An object of this invention is to provide an apparatus of such size and mobility that it can be used to remove ferrous articles from roads, parking lots or any surface over which vehicles may travel, in an effective, speedy and economical manner.

Another object of this invention is to provide a mobile magnetic field of sufficient force to not only pick up loose items, but pieces embedded below the surface which might normally be forced upwardly through the surface by frost or other disturbing influences.”

A Couple Extended Jeeps

• CATEGORIES: Features, Old Images • TAGS: , , .

Roger Martin spotted both of these jeeps on Facebook.

The first one was describe by Jim Burrill as a British Jeep during Operation Veritable.

The second jeep was posted by Norberto Boddy and was extended in the middle (CJ-2L-like). I tried to hunt down “Crescent Poultry Products”, but didn’t have any luck. The phone number seems strange, as it include an “L” in it; anyone recognize that phone number construction?

This just sold on eBay for $31.00. It was listed as a 1955 brochure, but given it includes the CJ-6, it seems more likely it was 1956 or later.

1954 CJ-3B Erie, CO $10,000

This has VT tags, but never been to VT, which likely means a replacement title of some type.

“Since buying this ’54 Willys CJ-3B in Utah nine years ago, it has been garaged in Colorado (despite the VT tags, it’s never been to VT). It’s rust free and almost completely overhauled. Since I’ve owned it I have made the following improvements: Remanufactured engine, new radiator, new leaf springs, new struts, new fuel pump, new carburetor, new distributor cap and harness, new points, etc. It runs great. I am moving and have too many vehicles. I have a nearly new dove tail trailer (bought it for $2,600 and have put about 2-3 thousand miles on it) that I would sell for $1500 along with the Jeep. I have about $25,000 into this vehicle, including the initial acquisition cost. It’s not perfect, but it’s pretty close. This is likely the most mechanically sound stock Willys on the market.”

820 Jeep Service Fort Worth, Texas is Selling Off Inventory

• CATEGORIES: Features

UPDATE: Gayland relayed that Bob says he is willing to ship some items, but it does take him some time to get to the shipper. He does have some MB items also.

Originally published April 17: Gayland sent me the following. Note that Bob does not want to ship. He’s an old school guy (who even sold Desert Dogs at one point) who would rather deal in person.

Bob Brant of 820 Jeep is trying to sell off a bunch of his stock. The state is going to expand the freeway and intersection that his place is located upon and he wants to sell his land and shop and move elsewhere.

He has ALL kinds of parts laying around,  I saw a grille guard I think belongs to a M715.  I haven’t seen any MB parts, but that is no indication he doesn’t have any.  CJ2a’s, 3a’s. 5’s, bodies, frames and parts sitting around around (he is not super organized)  He has a Deuce-and a-Half  with trailer for sale, I am not sure of the M number.  I found a M416 axle in his parts pile and a CJ5 windshield frame.

So, if anyone in the Fort Worth Dallas area is looking for parts, I would say call him or text him and find out.  He prefers dealing locally because it is a pain for him to get things shipped. Call or text him at (817) 235 7270.

As a disclaimer, I have no interest in the business other than to help a fellow Seabee and Jeeper (who is also my mechanic.)
