Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “1949 Willys CJ3A Jeep with a clear Texas title in hand. The body is in great condition with little rust. The toolbox is solid and not rusted through. This was to be a restoration but I don’t have the time to complete it and I’m wanting it to go to a good home to be completed. It is a runner and can be driven. It has a long list done to it already and parts waiting to be installed … All new parts were purchased through Walcks4wd.com and the motor was rebuilt on March 3rd 2010. It is a driver and is in good shape. The transmission is in good shape. The transfer case has some slop in one of the levers but works fine. It’s at the point of needing disassembly, cleaning, painting and reassembly. This is a great restoration project and requires very little in new parts to complete it. I am asking $5000 negotiable. I have much more than that in it already. This really is a good deal.”

“1951 WILLYS CJ3A ORIGINAL CONDITION. 132 FLAT FOUR 3 SPEED. THE JEEP IS A BEAST , IT IS 99% ORIGINAL AND IN FAIR CONDITION. LIKE ALL OLD WILLYS , IT HAS HAD A FEW RUST REPAIRS OVER THE YEARS, BUT THE BODY IS ALL THERE AND SOLID. THE FRAME IS GREAT NO ROT ONLY SURFACE RUST. THE JEEP TURNS OVER FINE, BUT NEEDS A FUEL PUMP TO RUN. IT WILL RUN OFF A FUEL BOTTLE TO THE CARB. YOU WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL BOLTS, THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW HOW LONG THIS JEEP SAT BEFORE I PURCHASED IT. TON OF NEW PARTS, PLUGS , WIRES , CAP , POINTS, …………..”
It looks like there’s been a patch along the driver’s side. Otherwise, this appears pretty stock. It’s not running.

This Jeep has some personality. It’s a bit beat up, but I like it.
“This is and old Jeep that has been in the family for about 30 years and has just been used on private property to stay out of the weather when hunting which is great and push snow. The engine is the 4cyl. Hurricane with 3 speed manual trans. It starts and runs but has been sitting for some time and will need a tune up and the pinion seals show some leaking. The electrical system is the original 6 volt but starter has been rewound for 12 volt. Generator does not work but alternator does. Snow plow is homemade but does the job. The odometer shows 63827 but stopped working long ago. A water line can be seen but that was years ago and is dry at this time. With this said it would be necessary to trailer home and do some TLC before being roadworthy. I have a clear Missouri title in my name that will be reassigned over to you with a bill of sale. This is nothing fancy, but appears solid.
“1951 willys cj3a, rebuilt motor in 04′, body sprayed with bed liner, inside, outside and underneath, frame sand blasted and painted, 9k winch mounted on front, works great, needs brake shoes, which i have, and carb kit, which i have, although it still runs fine, and a bunch of extra parts, which will go with the willys, doesn’t use oil, 4 wheel drive works great, used it at my cabin in the Adirondack mnts, sold cabin, no need for willys, ”
Note the unusual rear PTO winch.
“Here we have original Willys Jeep 1951 CJ3A . This little farm jeep runs excellent, the previous owner rebuilt the engine. It drives, and even stops with a great brake pedal. It is also has a PTO driven winch and the half cab with doors. The frame is nice and solid. The body will need some TLC . The floor is ok but the floor under the tool box is gone. Repair panels are readily available through Kaiser Willys Auto Supply. Perfect restoration candidate with optional equip. This is too nice to part out , but if it doesn’t sell I will part it out. You don’t find them often!”
It looks pretty stock and unmolested. I can’t tell if there is rust around the step or not.
“1949 Wills Jeep. Running ready to go. It has a 2.5 Chevy engine in it with a four barrel carb and header. The cool thing is it could have a small block chevy bolted right in. Needs to have the brakes bled then it could be driven home. I do have some 35 inch tires for it, but they would be extra. The hard top does have doors they just are not on it .”

Strip off the top and repaint this and it might look pretty good.

It has a front mounted winch with inside controls. It has the original type L-134 engine. This jeep is all stock. “Picked this up last year expecting this to be a “father and son” project…it turned out that neither of us had the time we thought we had. Son now wants a motorcycle or something “sportier” and I just want my driveway back. This Jeep needs to be completely restored and is not currently running. You could weld some sheet metal in the floor boards, reconnect everything, and bondo and paint it and it would pass for a while, but it is 50+ years old and would serve you better to really do some work on it. Aftermarket parts for this aren’t very painful…complete bolt on steel body kit runs about $3K from JC Whitney, a little less for fiberglass…if you want to bypass the patch, weld, and refinish route. Engine is easy to go through and lots of parts on the web. I have some makeshift seats (actual frame with a poly seat covering) and some miscellaneous parts to go along. Let me know your thoughts…I’m open to negotiation. Might consider a trade (for me, not my son)…possibly a running 60-70’s VW or a sportbike?? Check the link below for more pictures. ”
It’s got a funky rollbar, but otherwise looks pretty sound.

“This is a 1951 Willys UT Jeep. The body is complete and in good condition. The floor pans on the inside have rust. All of the gauges work. The engine is a L Head 4 cy. Transmission is a 3sp with hi/low transfer case 4wd. This jeep runs and drives great. I have owned this jeep for about 5 years. During that time I have had several people wanting to buy it. I purchased it with the intention of restoring it. Realizing that I just don’t have the time, I’ve decided to sell it. Also the title is free and clear.”

“jeep has had f-head motor from cj3b installed sometime in past,starts and runs,rest of running gear appears original, has metal hardtop which looks to be of same age as jeep with rollup windows, the frame is solid as is top,body is rusty .this is a project that is not road ready,glass is gone brakes don’t work,transmission and transfercase do work,i have a title,would be a good start to add a new body but i have to many projects,i took it on trade and don’t need another project(the doors are laying inside)”
