“I am selling a 1943 GPW Ford Jeep that has been in a dry storage for 5 years and doesn’t start at this time from sitting and the carburetor probably needs rebuilding. Engine and transmission have less than 1K miles on them since they were rebuilt in the late 1990’s. It has a new wiring harness, the rear drive shaft has been replaced, all U joints replaced and brake system has been rebuilt.

The tires are in good shape and not flat, the Jeep has the original combat rims, fuel tank was replaced when the engine was rebuilt. It is equipped with original accessories and everything in the photos are included, no other spare parts are available. It does have the elusive “F” marked pintle hook. 99% of the parts are “F” marked. It is not currently registered at this time so it will need to be trailed home and the title is clean. $10,000 FIRM and I will only accept CASH.”

For the price it ought to have combat rims. The windshield has worn a spot on the cowl. Given the alternator, it seems to be 12 volt.

1942 GPW Greenville, SC **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: GPW (Ford MB) • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: Was $15,500.

All proceeds from the sale of this jeep will go to a military history museum. Maybe it is related to this new history museum? Unfortunately, the GPW has some changes, including a VEC windshield, altered wiring, extra braces on the bumper, incorrect bumper, missing hood latch, and probably some filler on the passenger side behind the step. The glove box is also “missing”.  I’d look this one over carefully.

“Original body that has the Ford script stamped on rear panel. Serial #28563 (manufactured in May or June of 1942). 6-volt electrical system. 13 gallon tank capacity. Front headlights pivot upwards for airfield use. Tool compartments above each rear wheel (both have rust damage). Flat fenders, Gerry can and spare tire mounted on rear, pioneer tools mounted on drivers side. Jeep has been partially restored. The transmission was rebuilt 2 years ago an windshield has been replaced. Canvas seats are in excellent condition. The glove box is missing and some non-original holes in dash. A trailer is also available to go with the Jeep for an additional $750. The Jeep was a show stopper in a recent Armed Forces parade. The Jeep is currently on display in a Military History Museum and has not been run for approximately 5 months, however it ran great before putting it in the Museum. All proceeds for the sale of the Jeep will go to the Military History Museum.”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Appears in good shape.

“This 1945 Army Jeep with Willys trailer was meticulously restored by my uncle Erv.

From what I remember, he did a ground up restoration in the 1990’s and paid attention to detail. I do know he added and electric fuel pump a few years ago.

Erv was a mechanic in the army in the late 1950’s and always love military vehicles, this jeep was his pride and joy. I don’t think he ever missed a Memorial Day & Fourth of July day parade with it.

(05/07/2017) Needs some exhaust work.

“I am selling a near complete restored 1944 Ford GPW Army Jeep from WW2. The vehicle has a recently rebuilt Go-Devil Engine, carburetor, and radiator. A truly accurate restoration with the only modification being the 12 volt battery conversion. The comes with many original items such as a canvas summer top, first aid kit, axe, fuel can, and more. The vehicle still needs the some minor work on the exhaust which causes the fuel pressure to drop and cannot drive far until this final problem is resolved, however the vehicle idles perfectly and can be driven onto a trailer.”

“For the past 50+ years it has been driven roughly 30-50 miles per year. It was owned by a former board member of the Reno Air Show and was trailered from Reno to the event and only used to drive around the grounds of the show. Still has the original stickers from the air shows on the front wind shield. Recently had service done on the brakes, oil, etc.

Most likely one of the cleanest non-show car 75 year old vehicles you will see. Recently we did $1400.00 worth of maintenance. Runs great. Would like to find it a nice home.”

Looks solid.

“1942 GPW, the Ford license-produced Willys MB of WWII. As you can see, this GPW is well-restored but the work is about 13 years old. It has been well-stored and used monthly for re-enactments and living history events. The restoration was frame-off. Engine idles smoothly and maintains 30 lbs oil pressure. The jeep drives very nice. Frame and original data plate match title, but the engine is a later war GPW serial number. There is some minor corrosion around various parts/pieces which is visible in photographs. Mileage is an estimate. There are a number of extra items that come with the jeep, parts and accessories, and we will show those to prospective buyers when meeting.”

1944-gpw-rowlett-tx1 1944-gpw-rowlett-tx2 1944-gpw-rowlett-tx3 1944-gpw-rowlett-tx4

“The 1944 Ford GPW offered for sale here has been restored on top of what was a very solid and rust free chassis and tub. The hood and fenders have slight imperfections which indicate to me that the sheet metal is original as well. I purchased this GPW earlier this year from the estate of a Willys collector, restorer and enthusiast. I chose this one of the four MB/GPW’s available because of its originality and condition. There was a museum quality one in olive drab and Army livery but it was beyond my price threshold.

With the exception of the light blue paint (my son suggested it might be a Navy Jeep), the Pirelli Scorpion tires and 12 volt conversion this little GPW is completely stock. It came to me with a brand new canvas top that was still in a plastic bag. Opening it, unfolding it and installing it inside my shop made the whole place smell like a musty old army surplus store!

Equipped with what I believe to be its original drivetrain this GPW is powered by the Willys “Go Devil” 134 cubic inch iron head flat four designed to produce 60hp and 105lbs of torque delivered through the correct T84 three speed transmission and working two speed transfer case to drive the correct front and rear Dana axles and Warn locking hubs. The truck starts right up and idles cold with a little choke from the original one barrel Carter carburetor. It warms up quickly and runs cool with good oil pressure. The gas gauge is the only instrument not indicating. Steering, shifting and braking (four wheel hydraulic drum system) all work as they did when the rig was new, which is to say these are raucous, rough and tumble vehicles that offer little in terms of ergonomics, comfort or safety. Top speed was claimed to be 65mph although I can’t say I have gotten it much over 50mph but I do enjoy a casual cruise around the neighborhood and in the parade line (so long as I can avoid going in and out of that seriously low first gear).

I am going to guess that this car wasn’t driven much at all before I purchased it. I was impressed to see how readily it came to life but not really surprised because so much of it looks freshly restored. The motor is smooth, sounds good and has ample compression. It might grind a bit on a lazy shift and it does have a few weeps and drips after a day’s work but so do a lot of 72 year olds I know.

I fully admit to being a shameless car flipper. As such I have experienced a good percentage of my “bucket list” cars. I can tell you that this car attracts a lot of attention and draws people from walks of life far and away from the average car enthusiast. I have had the privilege of listening to memories of veterans that span the spectrum of emotions evoked by this little Jeep; from saving a life as a getaway vehicle in Korea to saving some sanity as a surfboard hauler in Vietnam. I have watched teenage girls give compelling (and as yet unsuccessful) arguments as to why their parent should buy them this car. One guy offered to store it for me in the foyer of his business. He didn’t want to drive it he just liked looking at it. Everyone loves the GPW.

Now, my bucket floweth over and it is time to move the GPW. This vehicle is located in Rowlett, Texas and is offered as is where is with no warranty implied or otherwise. Texas residents may be subject to sales tax and licensing fees. If the ad is up, it is for sale.”
