UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $7500.

“Here is a running jeep. I have all the parts for it, I believe it was restored in 70’s and I’ve had it since since 1997. I had the transfer case and hubs rebuilt then. It has been on my 18 acre ranch and use only occasionally, but hardly ever the past 3 years. I’ve got an electric fuel pump but have the original. Needs a muffler, fuel pump and the generator rebuilt as well as the original gas tank. I do have the original but it’s all rusted out. It does have newer tires. It’s got some rust on the drivers side and about 6 coats of paint. I’ve been told it’s worth between 5 and 10K so I thought I’d start in the middle. I would like to take offers on it.”

1943 Ford GPW 1/4 ton military (jeep). Ford body, frame, and engine. L134 flathead Ford engine has been recently rebuilt by certified shop specializing in WWII military vehicles. The engine was balanced during the rebuild process. The gearbox, clutch, and drivetrain was rebuilt. New electrical system. New tires. New brakes. New steering arms / knuckles. New cooling system rebuild. New gauges. Over $13,000 USD was spent in the rebuilding process. The body was left unmolested because this jeep is famous…This jeep was used in the following films: Pearl Harbor, Windtalkers, Flags of our Fathers, Letters from Iwo Jima. The film history is documented. This is a special surviving jeep that is real, not a fake one with a fiberglass body and parts from older model jeeps or from Asia. This is not a trailer queen and can be started and driven with no problems.”

“1945 Ford GPW Military Jeep similar to MB or Willys
This is a great old jeep and has lots of history. I purchased it 10 years ago from a man who got it from his uncle but had no interest. I drove this thing everywhere from the north coast, the central valley, foothills, to the Nevada desert… Just very slowly… And it turns heads everywhere I drive it!

I would love to see this GPW go to someone who is interested in restoring or at least leaving it in its semi-stock form. These rigs are becoming increasingly more difficult to find and this is a numbers matching GPW (frame, body, engine) that has a solid engine and decent body. It is certainly not perfect but also would not take much to turn it into a nice restoration or a fun weekend driver.

1944 GPW Virginia Beach, VA **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: GPW (Ford MB) • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $27,000

This GPW has some interesting history. The front bumper wasn’t restored to original specs, so given the price it would be worth looking this over closely.

“This Jeep has undergone a complete professional frame up restoration. This has just been done. It wasn’t in bad shape–no rust, fully equipped, but I wanted an exceptional Jeep which would be easy to drive with slack free steering, very dependable and a great looking piece of American history. Some call the WWII Jeep “America’s first sports car.”

Highlights of the restoration
— professional complete engine rebuild
— rebuilt transmission, transfer case, clutch, differential, radiator, 12 volt electronics, steering box
— new brakes, fuel pump, muffler and exhaust, fuel tank, gages, canvas top, windshield wipers, weather stripping horn, upholstery, and 5 new combat tires.

Provenance
During World War II this Jeep was assigned to a two star general and slated to go to England. Orders were changed and both general and Jeep went to Colorado Springs where the Jeep was used to pull aircraft out of Army Air Corps hangers. After the war it was sold to a private person, who drove it for pleasure and also leased occasionally to several Hollywood motion picture studios where it was filmed in a number of war movies. The drivers seat was lengthened slightly to accommodate actors such as Ernest Borgnine and Dan Duryae. I bought the Jeep two years ago and have used it restored for short stints around town and to the Virginia Beach Antique Military Aviation Museum where I am a docent.”
