This looks like a solid M-38. It still runs 24 volt.

“I am selling my 1951 military willys jeep. The tub is all original as is the motor and it has O rust. The floors are as solid as when they came off the production line. It is set up with the 24 volt system and has 2 new batteries. The tires and tubes are in brand new condition and i do have a spare tire and rim. It comes with a as i was told old new stock canvas top. The bows on the jeep are new and yet need to be painted. The wiring in the jeep does need to be redone as it is the original wiring. the wiring is good for starting and stopping the engine. The engine is solid and starts and runs beautifully. The high and low 4 wheel drive work great as does the 2 wheel drive. The jeep has a couple spots that for some odd reason were spray painted black but that is a easy fix with a can on military match spray paint. “This Jeep has been in my family since the early 1960’s and was used for hunting. It was purchased from Archer Brothers in Hayward CA. It will go anywhere you point it. Comes with a Warn 8000 lbs. winch. For the hunter, this Jeep is perfect. Unlike a side by side, this is street legal and will take four people just about anywhere your gutsy driving will take you. The motor runs great but needs to be painted. The body is ok but has many small dents from previous hunting trips. For the restorer, it could use bodywork, fresh paint on the motor, and new upholstery on the seats.
The Jeep was torn down to the frame and sand blasted, primered, and painted with PPG epoxy gloss black paint.

All original with diesel?  I did a little research and there is a rumor that a few M-38A1s destined for export had diesels in 1952 (http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=4725).  If that really did happen, then I suppose it is possible that a M-38 could have had one installed as well.  However, I have seen no other evidence to support this.

Here’s a rare Canadian version of the M-38 built by Ford.  Nicely restored rig.

“Buy a part of history. 1952 M38CDN Willys Jeep. One of only 2,135 assembled by Ford Motor Co. in Ontario, Canada. Completly rebuilt L134 “Go Devil” flathead engine. All new military components. Original 24V electrical system. New clutch, rebuilt carb, rebuilt fuel/vac pump. New brake lines, shoes, drums and wheel cylinders . Three speed T90 transmission. Relined fuel tank with new sending unit and in tank filter. This Jeep still has the original body which shows normal wear and tear. “This Jeep is awesome. I bought it from a military man who had the engine rebuilt and took great car of it, he used it in parades. It was titled in GA as a 1947 and when I bought it the SC title was left as a 1947. His son, who I bought it from said it was a ’52 and was used in the Korean War and from all indications this seems to be accurate, as this is not a Civilian Jeep. The actual mileage is unknown, but not many miles have driven since the engine rebuild. Shifts and drives great. I mean really great. It’s like a dream to be in it.

I had just had the entire brake system replaced, down to the hoses to make sure the next owner can feel confident in their safety. It was also had a tune up, new battery and runs awesome. Just got it back and put about $1,600 into it, so please bid with confidence

This Jeep owns the road, you can drive it and smile, as it feels amazing. Be prepared for ton of compliments, and has no problem keeping up with traffic and tops out at about 50mph.

Needs windshield and wipers, but did not get them because I keep the windshield down. Fuel and temp gauge do not work. It also could use a small piece of sheet metal on the bottom side of passenger’s seat under the tool box area.
