(12/16/2011) It looks nice enough, but whenever someone claims a jeep is restored to “exact specifications”, yet I see right away non stock hubs, I become a little leery.  However, generally is looks pretty good.

This is a restored example and is equipped with all ORIGINAL extras: military riffle-bayonet with dash mount, extra gas tank, 2 shovels, axe, field phone with extra battery, rear seat, spare tire, owners repair bible and extra parts. Only 73,050 original miles, carefully restored to exact specifications. Finished in Olive Drab with correct White stars and numbers. Runs and drives great, parade ready. The seller lists this as a “Willys MB”, but I’m pretty sure this is a M-38.  I wouldn’t bring it up, except that the seller is the one that wants someone to “respect the history of this fine automobile.”

This is advertised as a 1942, but clearly isn’t.  The irony is that the seller is asking buyers to do their research and see how rare this is.  I suppose a 1942 M-38 really is rare.

“Restored 1951 M38 Willy’s Army Jeep – Ser. No. 24,675 MFG 9-51The M38 only had a two year production run, during which time only 62,329 were built (compared with the nearly 650 thousand MBs and GPWs build during WWII). Has several unique characteristics compared to the WWII jeep. First with 24 volt electrical system, first one piece windshield, first to have 7×16 tires instead of 6×16, last and best of flat fendered jeeps, last of the flat head 4 cylinder engines, first jeep with true fording capabilties(sealed sparkplugs and distributer) when equipped with a snorkel and tail pipe extension and of course the removable tailgate.
Though restored, this has been changed to a 12 volt system and does not have the sealed(water proof) plugs. So here is an M38 that not only looks good, but is road ready.”
