UPDATE II: Merlin has created an order page for the book. Payment by check or credit card (no PayPal), check preferred. Directions are all on the order page. After April 20th all books will be direct from publisher and more expensive.

https://hansonmechanical.wordpress.com/2018/04/05/ordering-the-alaska-or-rust-book/

We may have a handful of books for sale at the Midwest Willys Reunion, but probably not too many.

UPDATE: I confirmed with Merlin that the first run of hardcover books will cost $40 and that will include shipping in the continental US. The book is 144 pages with over 300 color photos.  After that, the book will be available through Blurb.com at a cost of $42 + shipping (I suspect they print and mail them to order).  When Merlin is ready, he will create a book order page on his website. He will only be accepting checks or money orders. I will let you know when he’s ready.

Printing number one of the book will be hardcover edition.  I really like the hardcover so I will probably only release a paperback down the road, or maybe just print some and sell them at shows.  As soon as I have the postage details together I will start accepting orders for books and I will setup a blog post with instructions on how to pre-order.

Merlin Hanson has authored a photo book on our trip to Alaska and received his first full proof yesterday. He doesn’t plan to print a lot of extra books, but I would be curious to know if anyone has any interest in purchasing a copy (I thought of this last night and still need to check with Merlin about it).

UPDATE: This almost-one-year anniversary was the final event of the Alaska Or Rust Crew.

About half the Alaska Or Rust Crew. There were drinks and plenty of laughs on Saturday night.

Day 21: Saturday started at 5am and went to 1am Sunday morning. It was great to meet so many fans of my wife (I think she’s more popular than I am) and, of course, fans of eWillys. I appreciate everyone’s support, including the purchase of the shirts, books, stickers and posters. I nearly sold out of everything, so that helped cushion Day 1’s purse theft. Much appreciated! Here are some photos that Ann took (as I had no time):

<– Day 21 – Saturday May 19th: Mr. Infamous (Alaska Or Rust Presentation)

UPDATE: I’m still sick so no updates. We made it back to Pasco, where we will stay a few days before heading back to Seattle to help with Dad. In the meantime, Luciano updated the video of Hugo below by adding English subtitles for the Portuguese. Enjoy!

Original post November 14, 2018: On Sunday this video debuted at the Premiere Auto Show in Brazil at the Auto Show’s Jeep Booth. It features our good friend and co-Alaska participant Hugo Vidal. It’s mostly in Portuguese, but some is in English. You’ll see both my wife and I appearing in several clips. The title refers to Hugo as the First Citizen of Jeep Nation. Kudos to Luciano Falconi for his great videography.

Hugo also recently published a book on his trip, written in both English and Portuguese. http://www.ewillys.com/…/26/hugo-vidal-has-published-his-b…/

Semi-Regular Updates Going Forward

• CATEGORIES: Alaska Or Rust Trip, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Good news. I hope to begin semi-regular updates until late spring(?). With summer behind us, more darkness, Rose’s passing, and most of my work on the guest “bunk house” completed, I have more time to devote to eWillys. The updates won’t always be as comprehensive as before, but it’s better than nothing?

Because of the infrequent updates this summer and semi-regular updates going forward, all advertising this summer has been and will continue to be free, going forward, as a thanks to those advertisers who have supported eWillys over the years.

As for the bunk house work, the last resident was a bachelor with a dog. The result was that the place smelled pretty strongly (and not in a good way, lol), especially the carpet. So, we pulled all of that, put down new floors, replaced the plastic moulding trim with larger, better trim, righted the crooked doors (front door was so out of level it wouldn’t shut), and fixed or removed kitchen cabinets (to open up the space … we don’t need all those cabinets).

Currently, I’ve painted everything white, but we hope to add some accent colors to reduce the ‘snow blindness’ of the white. Next spring, we’ll fix up the outside by adding missing trim, redoing the ramp and deck, and painting the building red and white (after all, it looks a bit like a barn).

Some friends have expressed interest in renting it, but technically we can’t rent it because of some county rules (long story). Our intent is to make a place folks can stay if they want. Here are some pics.

Ann will be decorating in a barn theme, so that will add some color and texture. We expect it will sleep up to six (queen in the back, futon in the front, and possible bunk beds in an unpictured nook).

Before pic of the kitchen (I am hoping Ann has some better before pics of the interior):
