Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. (11/13/09) “1948 Willy’s CJ-2A 80″ wheel base, with a custom built roll bar. Body has been customized to appear as an MB. No engine or transmission, original Dana 18 transfer case. Original front axle, Dana 44 rear. Missing front drive shaft. Needs some minor wiring on lights and gauges. Fuel tank and battery needs secured. Has 33/12.50r15 all terrain tires with good tread. “1948-49 Split window Willys Jeep. Was in the process of being restored. Many new parts installed. Engine rebuilt by machines shop, with reciepts. Owner was unable to complete and relocated down south. I am selling this for a friend. I was helping him with the restoration. Call me for details any questions. Asking $2000.00 or best offer. ”
You gotta love the ‘flower’ box on the windshield … well, at least is looks like a flower box. According to the CJ-2A page, there was only production of 73,378 CJ-2As produced by the end of 1946, which would make this CJ-2A, with a serial number of 73459 as an early ’47 (assuming VINs, bodies, etc etc weren’t switched). I didn’t realize this had the 6 cylinder in it. It fits snugly. No title!
“1946 Willys Jeep CJ-2A. I’ve owned this jeep for about 16 years. We use it every year during elk and deer season. Other than that it’s stored inside undercover. The body is pretty straight for it’s age and has very little rust, although there is some under the driver and passenger seat pans. The seats are just the steel frame with no cushions. The speedometer is missing but has the other gages. She starts easily and runs good but don’t plan on going anywhere fast (top speeds about 45mph). The original flat head 4 has been replaced with a Willys Super Hurricane 6 cylinder 226 cu. in. engine (produced by willys after 1954 for their pick ups.) It fits very nicely and delivers about 115 hp.so lots of power for climbing or dragging that big one out of woods. Transmission and transfer case are stock and work fine, although half of the rear driveline is missing (I think it dropped off during the tow home this year). The paint is mostly camo with the original red showing inside the cab area. I have’t had it registered since I bought it and can’t find the original title so I’ll issue a notarized bill of sale.”

Triangulated three link rear with coils and Ballistic 1-1/4″ joints. Waggy front springs SOA.Fuel injected 302/toploader four speed/Dana 18 transfer. Body just had some replacement panels, but still has some rust to repair if you want a trailer queen. Frame boxed. Just needs some assymbly/brakes plumbed/wiring and misc.”

“I have a 1946 Jeep Willys cj2a im looking at trading for a 71 chevy shortbox pickup. I would prefer a 4×4 but a 2×4 might be alright too if its in good shape. Engine doesnt really matter neither does transmission really. It should run or be close it but i wont turn down a good project if its in good enough condition. My jeep willys is a 46 Cj2a and is complete minus a gas tank and ignition. Clear title in hand yours should be too. It comes with a brand new tailgate, windshield frame, seats and all rubber seals. The jeep is taken a part right now but sits as you see it in the picture. I picked it up a few years back and just havent had the time to get into it yet.
Tires hold air just fine its been garaged for the past 5 years so shes ready to be restored to your liking. It still has the original hurricane flat 4 engine too which turns over smoothly. All new brakes on it too. wired 12v instead of 6v now.
Im located in rapid city. I can trailer the Willys to you within reasonable distance for milage if you dont live in the area. I may take cash for the Willys too if your interested but dont have a nice shortbox for me. Shoot me an email and we can go from there.”

Here’s a highly modded flattie.
“1948 4X4 Willys Jeep, 283 Chevy engine, 4 speed transmission, front disc brakes, air compressor, back seat, 8000 lb winch on front, 33″ swamper tires that go great in the sand, dana locker rear end. This jeep has been in the woods and the beach. It goes anywhere you take it. Asking $3400 obo.”

“I hate, hate, hate that I have to sell this Jeep. I purchased in the early 2000’s and have 293 recorded man hours into the restoration. I have a full photo album of pictures from the very early stages through completion. However, none are online. I have taken a few pictures of the pictures with my camera phone.
Too much detail to go into regarding the restoration, but I do have a printout of everything that went into it. It runs well and is started weekly to keep everything in working order. (04/09/09) Honestly, I’m not sure if that’s a paint job or paint peeling. The seller says this is a ’46, but the grille and body look more like they are an MB/GPW. so, the actual year of this vehicle might be earlier.

Here’s a solid looking CJ-2A with a CJ-3A windshield. Fruitland is only about 20 miles north from me.
“1946 Willy’s Jeep, 4 cylinder 4 wheel drive. It has a three speed transmission with a two speed Warren overdrive. The springs have been resprung. It has a full soft top in good shape, and it also comes with a bra top. Brand new all season radial tires. After market heater that really warms. New clutch, Runs great. Body in good shape, could use a paint job. Weak points: Windshield wipers needs one motor, bubble in hood (see photo), needs choke cable.”
