Here’s an unusual arrangement of rear sitting.

“All bearings, brake parts and lines, steering linkage, wiring harness, gas tank and gas line, windshield and gasket, radiator, fuel pump, carbuator, water pump, alternator, hoses, all replaced with new parts. Electrical converted to 12 volt. Engine has oil filter cartridge system. All clutch parts new. This vehicle is a solid runner. It has 16 inch rims, which are not the original 15 inch rims. Tires are 7.50X16 and are probably 25 years old with tubes and have always held air. I have owned this jeep since 1987 and have done all of the work except rebuilding the engine, which was done professionally. Drives good, no shimmy. Floor starter. All guages replaced with new, however the gas guage needs to be replaced as it was burned out when the conversion to 12 volt was done. This jeep is ready to use.”

Note the bottom blue tub.  It has the custom dash that I’ve seen on 5 or 6 or jeeps from California.  Also, it appears that it doesn’t have a driver’s side gas inlet as a part of the original design.  Anyone know anything about these bodies?

This jeep has a variety of upgrades.

“1950 Willys CJ-3A, NO RUST, very solid all steel body on 79 DJ-5 frame, 231 Buick V6, Almunimum radiator, push fan, 400 turbo automatic transmission, Dana 20 transfer case, centered dana 44 limited slip flanged axle rear end. 3.73 gears, Dana 30 front end with new 11in brakes. Drives like a new Jeep. Full roll cage with padded top tubes, new steering wheel,tub is durolined. 33×12.50×15 tires with less than 1000 miles driven. 2″ receiver hitch on custom square tube rear bumper. gas tank under back. Levi Strauss edition front and rear CJ-5 seats. New turbo mufflers. All new wiring. Tilt wheel, saginaw power steering, new Rancho front lift springs and 5000 shocks. Bikini top only. Engine runs strong, cold starts and warms up fine, compression is good in all cylinders. (I do not know any mileage of car or engine).  This is one a CLEAN, V6 Automatic cj3a done right. zero rust and garaged.”

It’s a project.

“Up for auction is my 1949 Willys Jeep CJ3A. This is a project that I just don’t have time for, due to Deployments. This Jeep runs, the tranny shifts, and the 4 wheel drive works. I do give a guarantee. Just hook up some fuel and a battery this baby will start. I discarded the body because it was too far gone to repair. You can order the body and practically every part for this Jeep through companies like Kaiser Willys. I have purchased a new grill and steering wheel along with other misc. parts. The window frame is in OK shape and will need new glass, it’s flat and will be easy to replace. All this Jeep needs is to be sand blasted painted and ready for body. I will help in the shipping process, I would consider delivering within 250 miles of Fort Campbell KY for 1.00 per mile. I also have a V8 conversion kit for this Jeep if interested. “New Aluminum CJ3A JEEP body on a new 1973 CJ5 powder coated frame. This frame allows the use of a V8 engine. Powder coated Dana 44 rear, Dana 30 front, and Dana 300 Transfer case, are geared for the new tires installed on the polished aluminum wheels. A complete new power disc brake system is still in the boxes. New parts include a new fuel cell, fuel line, wiring harness, body mounts and suspension parts. All the parts for this project cost over $17,000, not including the powder coating, windshield frame and original front grill. I don’t even want to think about how much was spent on powder coating parts. I will offer delivery within a reasonable distance. Call for a list of all the new parts included with this offer. UPDATE: SOLD on eBay for $2500 just a few hours after it was listed.  This was also listed at $2500 on Craigslist originally, but to my surprise didn’t sell.

This looks in great shape.  It still looks like a pretty good price given the condition.

“1950 Willy’s Jeep CJ3A, it has been garage kept in Santa Fe New Mexico for the last several years. The last time the Jeep was registered for the street was 1994. I would recommend a tune up and have the carburetor re-built or cleaned, fluids have been changed, engine oil and anti-freeze, the gas tank was drained and new fuel put in. The Jeep has been converted to a 12-volt system and still uses a generator. There is an electric wiper on the driver’s side and a manual wiper on the passenger’s side. It has locking hubs and they work fine. The engine is not the original, and does leak some oil, probably from sitting and not being run for the past few years. The transmission shifts fine and does not pop out of second gear at all; the transfer case also shifts with no problems. ….. As far as payment: If you have any questions please email or call me and ask, I will do my best to answer them or you.

The GPW looks in the best condition, followed by the M-38 (incorrectly listed as a CJ-3A) and then the CJ-3A.

“I am selling my hobby because of a line of duty accident that has left me with no other option. these jeeps were bought at an estate auction and they only have a bill of sale, because they have always been government owned before the last owner. The CJ3A was started on a off frame overhaul and the body was set back on to sell. The GPW is as I purchased it they both ran and drove off the trailer. the last one is just parts. thank you for your interest, this pains me to do this but I have no other choice.”

UPDATE: The winner of this auction for the low price of $1575, Joe reports he brought a new battery with him when he picked up the jeep, stuck it in the jeep and the jeep fired right up.  He then drove the jeep right on to the trailer.  He’s a happy camper about now.  Congrats!

UPDATE:  The winning bid was $3600, which surprises me a bit given the rotted tires and top and the dented body.

“1951 Willys Jeep w/ 4 wheel drive. I am told it is a CJ3A ?? This is Barn fresh. Stored away for years!! The body is in good condition. Some dents and dings. Was hit in the left rear quarter at sometime. There is no cancer. The floors are great!! No dents in the tailgate or the floor. Motor is free. Turns over. The gas is old. Tires are dry rotted. This is a great one to restore. This is for pickup only!”
