1955? CJ-3B Salt Lake City, UT **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-3B • TAGS: , , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  **SOLD** Was on eBay

(07/09/2012) This CJ-3B has an interesting history. The seller lists this as a 1953 CJ-3B, but the serial number suggests 1955. It looks pretty stock and in good shape, too.  I also has a rare pto lever in the cab that exits through the passenger side floor.  It controls a rare crankshaft powered PTO.

“This is a super rare US Government BLM issue 1953 Willys CJ3B. It is one of the most rust-free, high optioned, low mileage and untouched Jeeps you’ll ever find, one of few left in this condition with all the original paint! Only 33,900 miles, a true survivor!

Originally a US Government BLM vehicle. All the original BLM badges and stickers still remain. Government vehicles are given meticulous maintenance and this Jeep has had such a high maintenance standard. It was decommissioned in 1974 and has been in storage since then for almost 40 years. It was stored indoors in a dry building out of the weather, hence the astonishing preservation. The last time it was registered was in 1973 and still has the inspection sticker on the windshield. It was properly stored with all the fluids drained, the gas tank isn’t rusted and radiator is healthy. This Jeep has low mileage due to storage. The original hood isolation material that is mounted on the grille is still in decent shape.

This Jeep is virgin in every way. The paint is in amazing condition for 1953 and still has a nice glossy shine to it. It’s just about next to impossible to find a Willys this old with shinny original paint. All the original insignia stenciling (“4 wheel drive” and “Willys”) on the hood and tailgate are still intact.

You just can’t do this Jeep justice when it comes to originality and condition. It has been left alone in every way and hasn’t been cut up or had holes drilled in it everywhere. It still retains the original single tail light/ reflectors and the original spare tire oak block. The fuel pump, spark plug wires, radiator and gas tank are even original! The carburetor has never been rebuilt and runs perfectly.

Mechanically this Jeep is sound, again it only has 33,900 miles on it and it runs like a top. The engine has a lot power and oil pressure even after the engine has warmed up (see pic of gauges). The transmission shifts perfectly with no grinding and the 4 wheel drive works great. It also comes with correct brand new 7.00-15 tire that really captures that vintage look.

I have owned several Willys throughout the years and have never seen one this solid! For those who aren’t as familiar with Willys CJs, about 95% (if not more) have structural issues up the wazoo and this CJ doesn’t. The floor supports/hat channels usually have large rust holes or are rusted out so badly that they are missing in spots and can become severely cracked and broken up. This Jeep is beautiful with no cracking or rusted out floor supports and still has the majority of the original paint underneath the floors. It is 99% rust free. All of the floors are 100% rust free, the only rust on the jeep is on the passenger rear, about a 1″x2″ spot by the tailgate and from what I’ve seen this is very common and very minor considering. This Jeep has never been in an accident or had any body work performed, as mentioned before this it’s virgin with no bondo PERIOD!

This Jeep has all original gauges, switches, hardware etc. and all gauges and equipment work, quite the hard find! The jeep has all the original wiring harness with the factory woven cloth sheathing still intact in great condition, you’ll probably never find another Willys with this much originality. This is a high optioned Willys and was fitted from the factory with Koenig hardware, a Koenig winch and matching Koeng hard top. Other options include lock out hubs, bug guard (not mounted) and Harrison heater. This is a special Koenig winch and works wonderfully; it is unlike most, it runs off the crank shaft in front instead of off a PTO mounted on the transfercase. It has unique controls mounted on the passenger side floor. When I say this jeep is all original-untouched I mean it, it has not been taken apart or dismantled.”

This appears solid and stock.

“I have for sale an all original 1956 Jeep Cj3b it is in very good condition for its age. It has never been restored and is all original. I have been collecting jeeps a long time and this is one of the closest to original jeeps I have ever seen. I have owned it over a year now and drive it about twice a week. It is currently tagged and insured. It is also one of the most well documented jeeps I have come accross It has all the receipts for everything ever purchased for maintnance on it. I also have the original invoice and title from 1956 where it was purchased new in atlanta for a little over 1700.00 You will not find a better jeep for a restoration as there is little to no rust. The engine and electrical is still all 6 volt. It runs very well and can be driven anywhere. Top speed is around 55-60 Mph. Tires are in good shape. Top and doors are also in good shape and have no rips or tears. Price is firm you can email me for any ?’s”

1976 Mitsubishi J-59 San Francisco, Ca eBay

• CATEGORIES: CJ-3B • TAGS: , , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

The seller just bought this and now wants to buy something else.

“1976 Mitsubishi J58/CJ3B/Willys Original 24,500miles

I just recently purchased this and in between the 2 weeks it took to be delivered from Atlanta, GA, another one-of-a-kind deal came my way, so I will have to let this one go. Someone will be very lucky to get one of these rare Mitsu CJ3B’s.

Only about a dozen of these make it into the US through 2 importers due to the strict guidelines for the importation of used vehicles. The majority of these that are sold out of Japan go to Europe and South America. Only the nicest ones make it into the US and are usually presold before they are ever off the boat and this is one of them. This was the personal Jeep of one such importer.

I am not new to early CJ’s. I have restored about a dozen pre-1965 CJ’s. Four of them being body off CJ3B’s, so I can tell you I know these Jeeps. Prior to buying this one, I had never seen one of these – only pictures. So what you have here is a CJ3B with far better running gear, motor, power, heating system, with defrosters, that the early Willy’s with the overhead cam hurricane motors just did not have.

The only thing that was added to this Jeep was the CB Antenna and the gas can, which is mounted directly to the tailgate. The spare tire mount does not swing out like American CJ’s. It folds down and is not mounted to the tailgate.

Everything works on this Jeep – Radio, Turn signals, everything. I’ve only had this Jeep one week and have driven it about 10 miles. Being a 110HP, it is REALLY snappy and it is a 4-speed and will cruise effortlessly at 60-65MPH without overdrive and without Warn locking hubs, which can be installed. . . ”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

“First the back story:  I plow snow with a 94 wrangler and had an older farmer friend for a customer. After completing a job, he mentioned he had an old jeep in his barn but hadn’t run it for years. Enter the 63 cj-3b you see here. We worked out a deal and I bought the jeep.  The jeep was in solid shape, except for the floors which sat under a roof leak. After a little work the motor fired right up. I have rebuilt a cj-5 and two cj-7’s but always had an eye for the high hood  cj-3b. I was going to modernize it as much as possible, to make it more road worthy on today’s roads, (v-6 motor, steering upgrade, brakes and such). But after doing the research on the history of the cj-3b and the good running condition that this one was in I couldn’t bring myself to alter it. So… I have restored it to as close to original as I could.

The body was completely disassembled steam cleaned and media blasted. The body was rebuilt as needed to original specs with all brackets and braces and spot welds as they should be. There are no welded over patches or body putty. The floors and box bed were replaced, and are exactly as they should be. The windshield is new as are the rubber gaskets. The body was painted plantation white as the paint code shows (actually the same paint mix with the right amount of flattening agent). The trim code showed a red that jeep (from research) used to paint fire vehicles, and upon cleaning the overly painted wheels red was the first color that they were painted. It also has a heater and defroster and two working vacuum windshield wipers .  New gas tank and cap and sending unit. The hood is nice and flat.

The frame was and is solid was no needed boxing or reinforcement. It was sand blasted and covered with por-15 frame paint.

The running gear was also steam cleaned and painted with por-15 frame or engine paint.  The transmission, transfer case, and front and rear diffs., were opened cleaned and inspected and resealed and filled with proper fluids. The motor ran fine for the two years I drove it. The compression was checked and was in the proper range, so I couldn’t see the benefit of taking it apart and rebuilding an already fine running motor. The carburetor was rebuilt, new plugs and wires new coil and the distributor was also rebuilt. The motor starts right up and runs smoothly. The tires are like new. Radiator flushed , new hoses.

Brakes were totally rebuilt with proper new steel lines and hoses, new brake linings wheel cylinders and master cylinder. Also new emergency brake lining.

A new wiring harness was installed with all clips and grommets. It was purchased from Carl Walck. All lights and signals and horn work as they should. All switches and dash knobs are new. As are throttle and choke cables.

The seats were rebuilt using as close to the original material as I could find. The stitch pattern is the same as the original seats.

All nuts and bolts were also replaced with stainless or grade 8.

A Meyers half top also goes with sale. The farmer had it but never installed it. I wet sanded it so it is ready for paint or polishing. The top is in excellent condition with no dings or dents.  Four tires with  wagon wheels also goes with sale.

For some reason there was no emergency handle with the jeep and I couldn’t find one, everything is there except the handle and cable. I have an under dash unit from a cj-5 that can be used but it wasn’t original so I didn’t install it. Your choice to use it.

This has been a long winded description, but I wanted everyone to know what you are bidding on.  I would recommend  trailering it home  if you are not familiar with the 3b it is geared extremely low and is wound out about 50 mph. Great for around town, not so much for open highway.  Also the top and tires would not be able to mount on the jeep. Thank you and happy bidding.”

UPDATE: Was $6500.

(06/07/2012) This looks like a nice rig.  The later model CJ-3Bs rarely pop up for sale.  Over the last four years I’ve spotted around 10 1965 CJ-3Bs on Craigslist.  Only 3 of them were stock and this nice.  This is missing the spare tire holder on the passenger side.

“1965 Jeep Willy’s CJ3: ALL ORIGINAL, NEW TOP, FULLY RESTORED, ALL ENGINE AND ACCESORIES REBUILT AND RUNS EXCELLENT!!! THIS JEEP IS READY TO DRIVE HOME AND FIRES RIGHT UP WITH THE TWIST OF A KEY, ALL PAINT INSIDE AND OUT LOOKS BRAND NEW, NO RUST AND OVERALL VERY GOOD CONDITION. 4X4 WORKS GREAT AND THIS MODEL IS THE ONE WITH A PTO TRANSFER CASE TO ADD ATTACHMENTS TO (POST HOLE DIGGER, GENERATOR, SAW MILL, ETC. ETC.) ALL THE COOL THINGS JEEP MADE FOR THIS HANDY LITTLE TRUCK! WOULD SUGGEST TRAILERING IF YOU PLAN ON DRIVING FAR DUE TO THE FACT THESE DO NOT GO VERY FAST ON THE HIGHWAY, BUT IT DOES DRIVE NICE AND STRAIGHT WITH PLENTY OF POWER!”

“One of a kind, very rare, the ultimate show jeep but built to crawl. This jeep is brand new from the ground up. Original 1955 cj-3b body on cj-5 frame. Built AMC 304 (tons of torque), Automatic 3 speed w/chetta speed shifter, high stall torque converter, wrapped headers with dual exhaust, remote transmission cooler. 35-10.5-15 micki thompsons on American racing rims, custom center console with all new gauges, split shift dana to control front and rear diffs indepently. It has less than 1000 miles on this beast (still has the fuzzies on theU tires). Drives straight down the road at 65 mph. This jeep was built to show and has never even seen a dirt road. I have all the sponsor sheets from the previous owner. The jeep was appraised in July 2011 (for insurance) and received 100 out of 100 points at $35,000. I have the original build sheets showing over $20k in parts alone, not including the parts I have added. Search the internet and you will not find another of this type that even comes close. No reasonable offer will be refused. I hate to see it go because I know I will not own another vehicle of this caliber. I can’t take it anywhere without someone asking for a picture. Nothing has been untouched. This vehicle is insured through state farm for the full 35k, they would not do this unless they knew it was truly worth every penny. 25,000 obo. or possible trade for newer, low mileage Toyota Tacoma or 4door rubicon.
