Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. (06/24/09) This is a nice looking CJ-3B, however I don’t think it will fetch the asking price. I’m gonna guess that the tranny is a T-15. I had a T-15 (with a built buick 225) in my last jeep and thought it was fine for both racing, jeeping and the road.
“1953 body with a 1948 frame, Complete frame off restoration, All new body panels replaced except tub. Front/Rear differential completey rebuilt. Buick 231 Motor, completely rebuilt with 20 over TRW pistons and off road cam with only 2 hours of run time. New Alum. High-Rise intake manifold. New Holley 2 barrel front float. Complete custom rewiring. Electronic distributor. Chromed valve covers and Alternator. 12V high flow air compressor in engine compartment, with accessories. Electric fan. Ceramic coated headers. (11/19/09) This looks nice enough, though I’m not sure why the builder didn’t paint the extension body pieces. The frame looks to be a mid to late 70s, early 80s CJ frame as best I can tell.

This looks like a very nice CJ-3B for the price.
“Available now is my ’53 Willys Jeep. It appears unmolested – which is to say that it looks reasonably stock and is in very good condition for its age. Adult owned – garaged. Has a functioning 8-track tape player (and tapes) and a Johnson 23ch CB radio, too. Included (but not shown) is a rear cargo rack and a fold-down rear seat. Also included is a Bikini top. Mechanically, it has had all of the desirable modifications done: Buick V6, SM420 transmission, Saginaw steering, Warn winch, KC lites, etc. I replaced the entire suspension last year…new leaf springs, shocks, shackles…even new grease fittings! I’d consider trades for a very cherry Samurai, Toyota 4×4/4Runner, or maybe a small convertible sports car like a Miata. I have many pics of this Willys and would be glad to forward some to you. E-mail me with questions.”

ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK THE VIN … THIS WAS A FUN ONE: The seller noted on ebay that this is a ’57, but it has the older, pre’57 dash. That raised a flag. So, I looked closely at the VIN: The first set of numbers are 55268 instead of 453 GB2. That VIN actually belongs to a 1956 Pickup Truck 6 cyl (226 ci) with 4wd with a serial number of 33836. See this service bulletin for the details.
“Very original Willys CJ3B. No body lift, original 4cyl engine, manual lockers on front, 3 speed trans. Color is Red, original upolstry in great shape and this has rear bench seat. Tool box under passenger seat. 4 good tires – spare is for decoration. Has AM/FM cassette and Jensen speakers under dash on firewall. Top is serviceable. No Bondo.”

Unusual paint job with the corner accents.

“Willys Jeep CJ-3B , Rebuilt Original 4 cylinder Drivetrain, Original 6 volt elec. System. Added 6 volt electric fuel pump. many new parts and new tires. It’s been in my family for over 40 years. 37,000 Miles, always kept indoors. My Mechanic says it needs to be driven more and I don’t have the time anymore for play. Email any questions you may have by replying or leave a phone number. I believe this is an ideal candidate for a total restoration to its original military appearance, which would at the least double it’s value, by ebay research.”

“54 Willys powered by a Ford 289. It has a 3 speed with a Dana overdrive, a new 4 core radiator and a new carb. It runs well and is a blast to drive. The rubber is in almost new condition and if you do get stuck the Warn winch will pull you out. It has a bikini top so if your going to drive it in the winter you best be a tough one. Give me a call if you have any questions.”

“My 1962 semi-restored CJ-3B has a Kelly cab and Western plow. I have had this as a plow truck for a while and in 2002 I sent it off to ‘summer camp’ to get the minor body work done and new paint. “This is a clean CJ3B that i am selling. It starts right up, runs good and drives/stops excellent. Original L Head 4 cyclinder engine with New Carb, New Alternator, New Fuel Pump and New Exhaust. Tranny works awesome and has a warn overdrive. New Tires, New Rims, New Brakes. The exterior of the body was media blasted and repainted but the interior was not touched. “I just plain do not drive this very much. 3 times in the last 4 years. Some bad. From sitting it has started to leak a little by the tranny and transfer case. Blinkers are not working which I am sure has something to do with why the brake lights dont work. The new oil gauge (psi) Is not working. I think I bought it with a default. I have always kept this in the shop so the top is old and weathered if even all there. The price is set to sell quick so first come first serve. Other than that drive this anywhere. 503 396 1631.”

It was available for $1700. It runs, it has on Overdrive, it is straight. This won’t last the weekend. It does have an L-head rather than an F-head though. Kudos to Brett for spotting this one! If I had a trailer, I would have left tonight to go get this myself. Oh, this one’s painful ….

This is a good looking CJ-3B with unusual striping.
“You are bidding on a beautiful original 1953 Willys Jeep CJ-3B. Black plate California jeep. This jeep runs very good with no oil consumption or leaks. The only rust is on the front fender where it meets the grill and the tailgat has a crack where the spare tire carrier used to be as seen in the pictures. It has a new clutch and pressure plate installed last year. The top is almost new with one small tear in the passenger door that happened when it was hauled to Arkansas from California in 2009. It also has a canopy top in good shape for those warm summer days. All 3 seats show some wear but have no rips or tears. The speedometer does not work the needle is broken off in the gauge. It has chrome rims and good street tires. The engine, transmission, twin stick transfer case and third members are all in good shape with easy shifting and no strange noises. New brakes were installed in 2009. The jeep comes with a tow bar for towing behind your motorhome. I have owned this jeep for over 10 years and bought it from a friend who used it on his horse ranch.
