Rommel Juan, CEO of MD Juan, asked if I’d publish this press release about the company’s experience at this year’s 2013 Willys Spring Reunion.

Jeep body builder meets the jeep community in the USA

Nothing beats the thrill and excitement of being with people who share your passion and love for jeeps. These were the feelings of Rommel Juan, chief executive officer of MD Juan Enterprises, the Philippine-based manufacturer of replacement jeep bodies and parts as he shared lots of light moments with fellow jeep enthusiasts in a recent jeepers reunion.

For the first time, MD Juan Enterprises was recently invited to attend and make a technical presentation at the 21st Annual Spring Midwest Willys Jeep Reunion last May 17-19, 2013 at the Clarion Inn and Convention Center at Hudson, Ohio, USA.

This is the first time that we have attended a reunion of civilian jeep enthusiasts of this magnitude. Over 100 restored civilian jeeps were on exhibit and we were pleasantly surprised when seven of them approached us to show us their jeeps restored using our body tubs and parts. One of them, Dave, even proudly exhibited right beside our booth his vintage Willys MB jeep that was restored using an MD Juan body tub”, he says.

July 6th & 7th Car Show in Saugerties, NY

• CATEGORIES: Event, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This New York Car show happening in July hopes to bring in military vehicles this year.

Larry wrotes, “Our little town puts on a real nice car show, vintage, hod rods, rat rods, trucks etc. This year its a 2 day event due to the fact its the tenth year anniversary of the car show. If you go to the web site you will see the great things the sponsors do with the money. This year the Ulster County Veterans purchased a home for the vets and the funds received will be donated to them. The sponsors are great people plus JEEP dealers. The sponosors asked me to get as many military vehicles as possible for the show, as a show of gratitude for the vets and there new home.”

Thurs. June 20th: Meeting Karson’s Team

<– Day 47 – Wed. June 19th: House on the Rock & Steve | Trip Overview –>

Thursday and Friday were the last two days of the trip and consisted mostly of driving home to Pasco.

2013-06-20-21-kearney-slc-pasco-map

On Thursday June 20th we drove from Kearney to Salt Lake City. On Friday June 21st we drove from Salt Lake City to Pasco.

On Thursday morning we woke in Kearney and got driving early. Our plan was to stop and meet Karson and his team an hour west of Kearney.  Karson and his FEMACorp team was heading east from Oklahoma at the same time we were heading west on I-80. So, we found a good place to stop and take a picture together. I know it looks like he is taller than me, but I’m pretty sure that’s an optical illusion.

After our quick meet, we drove to Salt Lake City, arriving in the evening and in time to have some fish tacos at the Lone Star Taqueria with my other kids, Kasia and Colter. We spent Thursday night in Salt Lake City.

2013-06-20-fish-tacos-slc

On Friday morning we left for Pasco, arriving in the evening. The trip was amazing, a one-in-a-lifetime adventure where numerous things–Jeeps, wurlitzer, Karson, and friends–all lined up to make  it unforgettable. Thanks to everyone who hosted us, met us, dined us, and gave us suggestions.

After 10,000+ miles over 49 days it’s time to rest.

Southern Indiana Antique & Machinery Club Show

• CATEGORIES: Event, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Mark has liked jeeps ever since he was a kid. When he was 16 a local widow would let him drive her late ’57 CJ-5 to run errands. In 1992 he purchased his current jeep. He adds, “It had a lot of work accomplished but it had a lot to go, Since then, I’ve repainted, reupholstered, built and installed the outboard components (tire carrier, tow bar & jerry can rack), rebuilt the brake system, and rebuilt the engine. I don’t believe it’s perfect because learning and doing it yourself an important part of the Jeep experience. My wife & I enjoy our Jeep as a weekender. Currently it just keeps going with regular maintenance and repairs as needed. However, I have some projects (a hard top restoration) to enhance her.”

JEEP PIX13

The reason Mark wrote was that last week he attended the Southern Indiana Antique & Machinery Club (aka SIAM) annual show held in Evansville, In. The show features antique farm machinery, Gas & steam engines, swap meet, flea market, food and bluegrass music. While walking through the garden tractor displays, he noticed a fabricated flat fender body on a garden tractor frame. The owner was away at the time, so he couldn’t ask about it.

Later, he came across a 1967 Tuxedo Park owned by another visitor (see attachments).

Just a few updates today (Sunday). Saturday was busy and a lot of fun at Jesse’s house. People were coming and going all day. There was plenty of good food, with hot dogs and beans at lunch and some delicious midday ribs from James in the afternoon. Blue sky and temperatures in the high 70s created perfect temperatures whether you were in the sun or the shade. Below are some of the day’s events.

After a group trip to Mother’s for dinner, we returned to find Bernie’s stunning FC combo:

Always FOLLOW a Half Track . . .

• CATEGORIES: Event, Features, M-38, Reader Stories • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Paul forwarded these pics to consider. The moral is, always follow a half track!

Last Saturday I visited the local military vehicle show and I saw an amazing sight.  Among the various military trucks, Jeeps and one half track on display there was a Willys  M 38 which had suffered a bit of body damage when the previously mentioned half track didn’t quite stop soon enough.  I don’t know the reason for the meeting of these vehicles but the attached pictures show the results of contact between one very light and one very heavy military rig.  The poor M 38 got the worst of this bump but the half track also suffered when it received a scratch in the paint on the front drum.  Sad to see but I don’t believe anyone was hurt.”

He wrote, “I attended the annual Military Vehicle show at Falcon Field here in Mesa Saturday (had to find another way to get my Willy’s/Flat fender fix since your site was down!). Anyway, I thought I’d share the pics with you (attached). It’s a great event, and included military motorcycles, dozens of non-jeep vehicles, a half track, helicopter, and many aircraft (always on display since this is the home of the AZ chapter of the Commemorative Air Force).”

Desert of Maine Jeep Train

Thanks to Warren for forwarding this lead.  Perhaps it is more accurate to call these mini-jeep trains, but just outside Freeport, Maine, there is a CJ-5 and CJ-7 that still pull tourists in a tourist-trailer around the sand (which I think they call ‘narrated coach tours’).  You can learn more about them here.  I managed to find a few photos of them on Flickr.  It looks like there are two different coaches.

Rick writes, “Took these pictures Wednesday at the Pennsylvania Farm Show. Pennsylvania does not have a summer State Fair, but does have a BIG farm show every January. We went for the antique tractors and found a really nice farm Jeep as well as a minature Jeep that ran. The farm Jeep is owned by JBS Jeeps in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and he visits ewillys every night [editorial note … cool!].  The farm Jeep had a pto ,hydraulic lift, and was really clean – believe it or not he does plow a little with it!

Veteran’s Day Weekend in Shasta Lake City, CA

• CATEGORIES: Event, Features, Reader Stories This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Steve snapped some photos of the Veteran’s Day Events on Saturday and Sunday.  He also added some information, too!

Steve writes, “Sunday I photographed Jack and his restored MB and M-100 trailer at the ceremony on Veteran’s Day,at the new Veteran’s Cemetery 10 miles West of town. Jack restored this Jeep exactly like the one he drove in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. It’s complete with machine gun mounted on the passenger’s side. I asked, and he said that most of their Jeeps were beat up MB’s left over from WWII. They didn’t see many “new” M38A-1 Jeeps during his tour.

Jack is a great man because he goes around to the local schools teaching kids how war is not a good thing, but it is necessary to protect our freedom from those who want to change us. He saw heavy action. Now he see that we are gradually losing our freedom as time goes on. He is now growing frail, and cannot go to as many schools as before. I told him I know someone who can make a professional video tape of him to preserve his presentation. He would like to do that.

He has a Korean friend who was 8 years old living through the Korean War. She accompanies Jack to the schools and shares her story of what their civilian family endured throughout the war in Korea. I don’t know her name, but she was the lady in the back of his Jeep in Korean attire during the Saturday’s Shasta City parade shown below.

The medallion Jack holds was from the Mayor of Seoul, South Korea marking the 50th anniversary of the war. The Mayor visited all the Korean Veteran’s groups and awarded that medallion to those who fought for his country. His gratitude meant a lot to that soldier, who never went back to that forsaken land, until much later in life. The City of Seoul was devastated during the war, and is now one of the most modern cities in the world. He didn’t recognize the airport when he landed several years ago. The old airport he remembered was a swampy land that was weathered by war.
