1956 Forms W-25X-XX Brochures

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features

UPDATE: I had these marked down as 1957 brochures, but they actually appear to be 1956 brochures.

In trying to organize some of the brochures that were produced for 1956, I have acquired these five brochures that have similar form numbers, but differing designs depending on whether they were for the domestic or export market. After all the efforts to harmonize the 1954/1955 product brochures, to have these brochures look different is a bit of a head scratcher to me.

I have three similar domestic brochures and two similar export brochures, yet they all have similar Form numbers. I’ve dated them 1956 based on the “-6” ending to the Form number. Below is an overview of the brochures. Posts with a full look at each individual brochure follow this post.

Additionally, it seems like there should be at least one additional brochure based on the Form Numbers; I’m missing W-251-6 and W-251-6X, if they existed.

  1. Form W-250-6 (CJ-5/CJ-6/CJ-3B):
    1957-truck-form-W-250
  2. Form W-250-6X (CJ-5/CJ-6/CJ-3B) Export:
    1956-form-w-230-6x-export-cj5-1-lores
  3. Forms W-251-6 or W-251-6X: Anyone have either one?
  4. Form W-252-6 (Trucks):
    1957-truck-form-W-252
  5. Form W-252-6X (Trucks) Export:

  6. Form W-253-6 (Wagons):

  7. Form W-253-6X (Wagons) Export: Anyone have this form?

1956 CJ-5/CJ-6/CJ-3B Export Brochure Form W-250-6X

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features

This 1956 CJ-5/CJ-6/CJ-3B brochure targeted the export market. It’s form number is Form W-250-6X, however it looks nothing like it’s Form W-250-6 CJ-5 brochure counter part. It’s larger and folds out to 17″ x 22″ (vs 17″ x 11″ for the domestic version). Why re-use the form number, but make the brochure wholly different from the domestic brochure? I haven’t a clue.

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features

This 1956 Wagon brochure Form W-253-6 likely has an export version labeled Form W-253-6X, yet I have had no luck locating it. I expect the export version design will be similar to Form W-250-6X (CJ-5/CJ-6/CJ-3B) and Form W-252-6X (Truck). This brochure opens up to 17″x11″.

Hotchkiss CJ-3B Brochure on eBay

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features

This Hotchkiss CJ-3B brochure appears to have been made in coordination with the Willys-Overland Export company, as some of the imagery and design is similar. Given the CJ-3B was considered the “New Jeep”, I’d say this brochure must have been published in 1953.

Below is the French version of the brochure, which is on eBay. The one below that is one from my collection.

Portal To Texas History Jeeps

Here’s a series of jeep photos from the Portal To Texas History website. There are many, many more: https://texashistory.unt.edu/search/?q=jeep&t=fulltext&sort=&fq=

This is my favorite of the bunch: An M-38A1 with a Schooner-like soft top:

This photo is dated 1945, but it’s clearly a 1950s photo based on the grille.

This might be a bit of a rant …

ww

During the 2000s my kids were into World of WarCraft, but I could never get into the game myself. Partly, this was due to my own impatience. Generally, I’m pretty patient, but I’m less so when it comes to games. An example: one time I needed to hand my sword to another player, but to do so I had to execute a bunch of commands, spells, and other machinations that I can no longer remember. Ugh … I quickly lost interest.

Why do I bring this up? Because last night Washington State (and apparently other areas nationwide) suffered through a Verizon outage.  Ann and I were in bed when we learned of it, so we tried texting one another. I texted something gloriously romantic like the word, “test”.

Being it is so close to Valentine’s Day, I probably should have texted, “Won’t you be my Valentine”? But, I didn’t …. Dumb, dumb, dumb … You should learn from my mistake … go ahead … please learn from my mistake: text your significant other right now. Ask, “Won’t you be my Valentine”?

I’ll wait. You can thank me later.

Anyway, it took about ten minutes for the texts to reach our respective phones due to the outage and despite the fact we were sitting right next to each other. It felt like World of WarCraft all over again.

iphone-car

I beat this notion to death only to bring up the fact that Apple (accidentally?) released code a few days ago that demonstrates the company’s efforts to bring a new “CarKey” feature to their phone. It would, theoretically, allow iPhone users to seamlessly move from one car to another, even to rental cars, without ever having to have a key. How could this possibly go wrong? Let me count the ways …

1954 Photo of a 106mm gun on M-38 on eBay

I thought these were only used on the M-38A1s. I’m surprised they were testing this on an M-38 as late as 1954. But, perhaps that was just the photo’s release date and not the date of the photo.
